Title: Hogs of Late
Post by: Austesus on March 24, 2024, 09:23:06 am
I haven’t been on here in a while, but we have been getting after some. Been on a streak of teeth here lately, I am ready for some fat sows. Since the start of the year we’ve had a handful of piglets, shoats, and a sow or two, but way more boar hogs than I typically catch around here. Been cut down quite a few times, and got on a rank 225lb Congaree special that gutted and killed my Leroy dog that I bred and raised out of my black dogs, also killed my hunting partners Honey dog with a bad shot to the face/neck that wouldn’t stop bleeding. Cut down everything else in the process and almost took a chunk out of my calf. Caught another two boars and a toothy sow that I didn’t get pictures of last night. My young dog Mosey has been improving every hunt and doing well. He got two nasty cuts on a back hind quarter on the hog that killed Leroy, so he has smartened up and learned to keep some distance and bay. Tried out a new bulldog last night that was caught hard on the ear on a big toothy blonde hog so I believe he will make the cut for me. Here’s a few pictures from some of the recent hogs.

Good hogs man, sorry about losing your dog. Catching those good boars is exciting but there is a price to pay sometimes.

Sounds like it’s been going pretty good except for the cutting. All those hogs had dog cutting teeth for sure. That mosey dog is a pretty dude.

Thanks fellas. Thomas, I am really liking Mosey. I think he’s a little slow maturing in a sense of he’s still got some of that timidness in him and is a little overly cautious of things, but hopefully that will develop in to some healthy fear as he gets older that will keep him alive. He got to swim for the first time on the hunt Saturday evening so that was a good experience for him. I am seeing improvement every time he goes to the woods. He’s a looker that’s for sure.

Not great pictures, but here’s a little better look at him.

I’m sure you’ll give him every opportunity to make a hog dog. Steady progress is all you can ask for.
