Title: Quick little hunt Post by: t-dog on June 17, 2024, 12:24:12 pm Deputy Dawg, my youngest boy Slayde, his buddy Kingston, Cannon, and myself made a quick little hunt this morning. Nothing real exciting but it was a a good hunt. We tried to get out of the woods before it got too terribly hot. I think we caught a decent boar and sow, a couple of bigger shoats, and a pile of pigs. It’s so humid right now that I don’t know how the dogs do it. Thankfully there’s plenty of water around. Had a good time with the boys and the dogs all did good so that’s about all you could ask for.(https://uploads.tapatalk-cdn.com/20240617/dd8a9e93322041641ce5fb49a975e598.jpg)

Title: Re: Quick little hunt Post by: t-dog on June 18, 2024, 09:07:10 am The humidity is for sure bad! It’s like you almost have to swim through it because it’s so thick. It’s definitely one of my main concerns. I watch the dogs extremely close because I don’t want to take any unnecessary chances of over heating them. I don’t ever NOT run a vest, but when we pulled up to the dogs baying this little boar hog in a pond, as soon as we decided he wasn’t a big risk, I sent ole Apollo without a vest. The other saving grace is that it’s so wet around here that there’s a water puddle, over flowing ponds, full creeks, and full banks rivers anywhere you turn around here. It’s supposed to start raining again in the next day or so I believe. I’m sure our farmers are ready for it to stop. Tornadoes have hit some of the crop land pretty hard over around Rogers and Temple, Tx which is just about 40-50 miles from us. If this next rain is very substantial, the rivers will likely be out of banks and do more crop damage. These lakes are having to release so much water that it doesn’t take a lot of rain to make a huge difference.
I hope you Florida folks are all good. I know the lower end has been getting hit pretty hard. Sent from my iPhone using Tapatalk Title: Re: Quick little hunt Post by: cajunl on June 18, 2024, 10:34:31 am That is a good hunt. Glad to see everyone and the dogs doing well.
I forgot about what that wet stuff looks like. Florida has been in a drought. S.Fl got the rain last week. But Central and N. Florida it is still dry as popcorn. We were about 3 months with no rain. I love hunting in the summer. But hot and no water is tough.... And what little spot with water is full of gators. Buddy lost a good young dog last week to one. But keep drudging a long. Got a secret weapon to start soon lol(https://uploads.tapatalk-cdn.com/20240618/7df644090c0e5bcd977fc63ce1feb007.jpg) Sent from my Acer Chromebook 15 (CB5-571, C910) using Tapatalk Title: Re: Quick little hunt Post by: Cajun on June 18, 2024, 07:25:13 pm That is a good hunt. You are ruined now. Non of your cur dog buddies will hunt with you now. lol You have crossed the line. Title: Re: Quick little hunt Post by: t-dog on June 18, 2024, 07:55:56 pm Man that’s a pretty pup but Cajun had already proven you can’t catch hogs with long eared brindle dogs, especially if they sing while on track.
Seriously though, what is your pup out of? It really is purdy! Sent from my iPhone using Tapatalk Title: Re: Quick little hunt Post by: cajunl on June 19, 2024, 06:10:34 pm I thought my wife was mouthy!!!! That thing make her like a Buddhist monk on a vow of silence! lol
In all seriousness I havent had a hound in 20 years. He comes from Dollins bred stuff orginally. But line bred bear stuff. We will see how he works. He has a head full of sense and an extremely fast learner. You can tell he wants to work different than cur dog. We will see how it goes.....He will have plenty of opportunity. The rest is on him. Title: Re: Quick little hunt Post by: t-dog on June 20, 2024, 07:36:33 am I have zero doubt that you’ll get out what he has in him. Brains go a long way. In my way of thinking, brains are second only to want to. If he has want to and is at least smart enough to run around a tree instead of through it, he’ll make a better dog than the smart dog that just wants to smell the flowers. That’s my opinion of course.
