Title: Perineal Urethrostomy/ cut urethra
Post by: ModisettH on June 29, 2024, 12:27:27 am
Anyone ever successfully collected a dog that’s had his urethra cut? My salty dog had his cut a year ago on a big barr. He got a nick in the sack but didn’t look as it got the actual testie. My Vet said he would try to collect him for me if I wanted him to but no promises. Just curious if anyone has been thru this? I’ve seen some research reports out of Brazil that supposedly had some success.

I had a stud dog about 10 years ago have both testes torn our of his scrotum.  Managed to clean them up and put them back in.  I stapled the wound shut so it could weep and kept him on antibiotics for a month.  He managed to sie 17 pups after that.  Regarding the urethra, if he can pee, he can ejaculate one would assume.  So the question is can he still produce viable semen.  Assuming he can the only issue you might run into would be if the cut urethra gave him urinary incontinence.  If it has it would be fruitless trying to collect.

The vet said he would try to collect him but was skeptical in case it got the nerves. Everything works fine it actually freaks people out lol! Where the tusk entered it reamed up the leg so they didn’t castrate him like they typically do.
They was concerned with uninary infections but so far none has happened. He’s been hit in the testies twice so I’m curious of how fertile he is. Next gyp I have come in that I would like to cross I am going to try it! Nothing to loose if we are being honest.
