I got out with some new friends Tuesday morning, man it was 10* when I left the house. We get to the spot, let the dogs out and start walking towards the area. There was a mountain they have good luck at, we get in there and most of the dogs go out for a bit but come back except two. About 5 minutes goes by and we hear a couple distant barks.

A couple minutes more go by and the whole woods shook to life with a thunder I had never heard before. Those dogs brought a herd of hogs to bay at the base of that mountain and they were all grunting and letting us know how much they did not appreciate being disturbed. The dogs got a boar locked down (about 120lb) and the rest of the herd ran up the mountain.

We dispatched boar number one and start up the hill, the dogs had a big sow caught (about 150+) and we get her taken care of. It’s early and the guys want to go hit another spot up the road. We get almost to the parking spot and the dogs dip into the woods nearby, we wait a bit and my male Jagdterrier starts barking. I told them we might see a deer or an armadillo, well all the other dogs fell in and bayed, we get in there, catch dog makes contact, he makes a move to escape but doesn’t get far.

Dogs got him pinned up against a deadfall tree, first guy gets him legged up and stuck. Ended up being a boar close to 200 with those dog killer teeth,  only one dog got a poke under the chin that was fixed easy enough. It was a great morning, with some new friends.

Sounds like a pretty good hunt other than the polar conditions lol.

Good hunt. Man it seems like forever since I have heard a good rally. Nowadays it seems like when the dogs bay a few hogs together, they split in 10 different directions.

Red nose and NLA, yes sir, I agree. I couldn’t believe we were going out in that cold but it worked out better than I ever imagined.

T dog, yes, I was the only one with terriers. The other two guys had the usual mix of cat/cur type crosses with the exception of two plotts. I hope to see those plotts some more, they looked good.

Cajun, in my limited experience the rally’s I’ve seen were sows and little pigs. These were all 100lb and up so that was a first for me. The sound was equivalent to a train passing by at close range, could’ve been the cold air and the acoustics of being backed up against the base of that mountain.

As a side not, my young heideterrier went out on the ice and broke thru, so my male jagd goes to her and falls through. Luckily we got them out of there, it could’ve been way worse. It’s supposed to get above freezing next week.

T dog, I was afraid you were going to ask that question, like Forest Gump “I’m not a smart Man”. So I put a link up from one of the main breeders that can tell you more than I can without my errors. My pov, they have about 50% Jagdterrier blood, some selected Airedale, then you might find some ebt, Irish terrier, presa canerio and apbt.

An owner of a brother to my dog did an embark dna test and that’s what his results showed. I don’t know how those Germans got that recipe together in a blender to get the result they were after. That’s why I leave the breeding to the breeders and I exchange my money for the pups.

 I was looking for more size and this litter was available, so I jumped at the chance. She’s young and inexperienced, I’ll have a better answer for you when she mentally matures. Physically she’s grown, mentally she still shows a lot of pup. But she goes hunting, she wants to catch and not bay but hasn’t figured that end of it out yet. Time will tell how she ends up in the long run.

My male jagd is a slow starter and it looks like she’s that way too, I never get the quick starters. But I do like the way my male hustles and bays. The heideterrier hustles and hunts, she’s just learning what to do when she’s face to face with the hog.

I don’t know how much stock I put in those DNA tests. Deputy Dawg had one done on a big male catch dog he had. He was 105# hunting weight. The test came back saying he had Chihuahua in him. I could just see him riding through the Wal-Marts in a little old lady’s purse.

T dog, Just think what those DNA test would come back on a Plott. lol  No telling what they would find in the woodpile. haha

Lol their results may come back the same as mine….confrused and mixed up.
