Title: 2-18-25 A day that is going to be hard to beat Post by: cajunl on February 19, 2025, 02:07:48 pm 2-18-25
Today just my old buddy and myself on the swamp buggy. His daughter in law and her young kids on the SxS. The plan was to catch five or six and head home about noon or so. Not going to happen today. Talked to the property manager for about 20 min first thing in the morning and he gave us the lowdown on what was going on and where to go. We started at about 9am. And were on hogs 300 yards from the truck. We had 15 hogs loaded in our trailer full by noon. Talked to his wife and she was going to try and get off early from work and bring us a horse trailer. She got to us about 4:30 or so. While waiting for her, we had another 10 tied and stashed around wherever we could keep them cool. As soon as she got there she hopped in the SXS and within 5 minutes we had a nice red boar about 200 caught. When she got there to help managed to catch another 8. And caught and loaded the last hog of the day at 9pm. We did’nt catch any trophies but caught 3-4 boar hogs close to 200. A few nice barrs and scrubby sows. It was a long day of catching, tying, dragging, untying and loading hogs. We swam…beat bushes…roped hogs out of ditches all day. We managed most of the day with 3 people and it was brutal. To say the dogs and us earned our feed at the end of the day is an understatement. At The end of the day we managed to catch and tie 33 hogs . We lost one in the trailer to stress. And lost one to my hurried tying that rolled back into the ditch and drown. So we left with 31 live hogs in the trailer. It was one of those days that is going to be hard to beat. It was a stars align kind of deal where everything worked out. They had some vegtables in all around, so plenty of food and had harvested all around it. The hogs were there and didnt have anywhere to go. Mike when I hunt S. Florida that is the only time I take them to a buyer. They are severeal there within 30 minutes. I dont have any near me....and the ones that do just buy trophies. Ill go hunt with my old buddy about once or twice a month and bring him some. But they give $65 for meat hogs, 75# and up, and $150 for trophies. The buyer we took them too wanted 100 hogs this month. All high fence pay hunts. They feed the dead hogs the clients dont take to the gators and sell gator hunts in a pen too. Why anyone would want to pay to shoot a hog in a 50 acre pen boggles my mind...but they do. It is a lot less work to cut them loose though! lol |
