EAST TEXAS HOG DOGGERS FORUM

I took two dogs for a walk in the woods yesterday, got to the spot and let them road in an area where we've struck before. I think we went maybe 150 yards down the road and they dip into the woods, my male is barking, i pull over to get to them and the race is on. Chopper comes back but Ruby is .60 and not coming back.

I drive around the property to get closer and it's getting me a little hot under the collar because she's not responding when I call her, drive some more and we finally get to her, now I'm using language I don't want my pastor to hear. At this point we're about .74 from the truck so I try to salvage what's left of our time. I swing down to a nice looking brushy area, Ruby goes right, Chopper goes left to the brushy area. I'm standing there letting them do their thing, when I spy a hog just standing near the brushy spot. I guess he got up when Chopper got in his space.

I know the hog is gonna break, Chopper starts baying and after a couple seconds the hog exits stage left, I figure oh well it was fun while it lasted. About 15 seconds later he starts barking bayed, I get moving because I don't think the hog will stay. I get closer and Ruby passes me, I know she don't like to bay so I'm trying to beat her there to see how it plays out. Meanwhile I'm trying to get my phone out to record, reach for my pistol, check for my knife (I left it in the truck) because I wanna be ready if he comes my way. Me and Ruby get there at the same time and she goes for the catch, and she actually got it and hung on, I get recording not sure how long she's going to hang on and what's going to happen if she get's shook off.

She looses her grip and the boar stays there with Chopper still baying, I don't waste anytime and get a double tap into him. I let them have some time with him while he still has some steam, I give him one in the back of the head to seal the deal. I was pretty pleased with the outcome considering this is Chopper's first season hog hunting, Ruby is a Bay buster, wanna be rcd, me forgetting my sticking knife. It's one of those times when I look to heaven and thank God for another blessed day. After thinking about it, the boar had some marks around his ears, I think someone else caught him a while back, he seemed past his prime. I've seen boars his size fight like prime Tyson and shake catch dogs off like fleas. But I will take what ever the good Lord blesses me with. Another great day for an old guy walking in the woods with a couple of culls.

Man, that quite the hog for those mini hog dogs. Lol good job, running off without a knife is something Tdog would do. Lol

WOW, I left my knife and tie ropes on purpose. I was trying to measure the hog.

I always put my knife on before leaving the house, this time I said to myself, I’m going to get gas and don’t want to have it on in the store, I’ll put it on at the spot. Well, I forgot.

Good boar, I bet hunting with them terriers is fun. We used to have a little jagd gyp years ago we called shorty when we first started. She had lots of hunt but was too high prey drive for us as newbies at the time. We sent her a guy off this board. I think he liked her and even bred her.

lol I’m the worst about having a knife on me in the woods.
