Very nice Craig. I like that paint mule. Im looking at a yearling that is bred and made up just like that mule. For hunting there just aint nothign better than a good mule. They will take care of themselves and by doing so they take care of the rider also... I Love me some mules i have 8 total... 4 that are my riding mules and four that we race... the race mules are a bit smaller but are some salty lil coon hunting mules too! and will get you there in a hurry!  ;D We squirrel and coon hunt a ton off of the riding mules and it will flat out spoil you. shoot me a message with your email if you can post pics easily on here and ill email you some of mine to post if you dont mind...

I went and visited this man a few years ago and found him to be very knowledgeable and friendly.  We rode for a few hours and I ended up leaving without a mule but not because I didn't like the one I was riding.  I would go back and look at what he has again, do any of yall know this man?

I love mules and I LOVED riding the mule, it was like the difference between riding a old honda civic and riding in a new caddilac.  We rode straight up a gravel hill that was every bit of 40 feet tall on the side of a RR bridge and the only difference is I had to lean forward a little and the same coming back down.  The only thing that scares me is that they are smarter than I am  ;D

There's a hog huntin dude in grapeland named henry who has some mules priced right. Last I spoke to him, he had two mollies who were being hunted off of priced at like $500 each. One was older and more experienced- I wanna say had been packed in colorado. The other was younger and needed some more miles but gonna be a fine mule.

Looks like I'll be hunting off a short eared mule named cooper  :)

Cheers

Chris
thanks for posting that pic for me , i couldnt find any of Brother and Nuby
i know i took some pictures in colorado but they where all on those throw a way cameras so i will try get the wife to scan them for me.
we need to get you on a real mule and you wont go back to that gas powered one  ;D

lightinin
im might not be much better than you at getting those pitures posted, maybe Chris could do it for us.
i would figure you would have some big running bred race mules.
so the little mules work better for the racing you do.
i guess you make clinton every year?
i have never been able to make it maybe next year.
do you make any of the all mule rides over in Ark. ?

 matt
you should have been able to find 3 or 4 mules out of that line up stephensranch looks like they sale alot of mules.

muleman
you have to have a picture of a mule.

krystal
i dint know you guys are into showing mules
thats cool , you guys have some nice mules and donkeys there, i relly like the little one with your neice.

 Bryant
thanks Bryant, that paint mule is pretty but she was a winch  ;D
i havent seen clues mules , im going to see clue this weekend.  ill take a look at them then.

 mandi

Craig, I have pics that i will post as soon as I'm home long enough. I cant view or post pics on here from the office for some reason. I have several mules still, even though i lost my old mule a few months ago. Even my kids have mules. i'll post some pics of them also. Great post on my favorite subject! i have a mule that my daughter is riding right now. kinda spotted mare mule that i will probably be selling when i find the right horse for my daughter. This mule will make an awsome hunting mule and will definitely be cheap enough. I have never hunted on any of my mules but i would like to do that soon. none of the guys i hunt with ride so i havent had the opportunity.

That is a good picture of the family Craig.  You need to get a picture of Nuby and Brother together, they look like a fine pair.  Does Mrs. Loftin like to ride the mules or is she just being a good sport  ;D

Hey linghtinh You can keep them sod busters up there!!I don't need one down here we don't do any farming and don't have any plows!!We use broom tails to do are work!!That boy of mine does have some farmer gentics in him he wants a dairy cow and some chickens!!But Rowdy say's he can rope the chickens and he might can get that dairy cow to buck  thats my kid!! The one that rides the donkey belongs to his mom!!LOL  ;D ;D ;D ;D ;D

Title: Re: Mules
Post by: aladatrot on November 26, 2009, 10:36:25 am
Craig, that picture belongs on a Christmas card!

Cward, I like cattle's donkey. I think he'll be really cool with a sliding stop and a spin. Give cattle a couple months with him and I bet that donkey will be the envy of the county. I want a dairy cow too, and I already have chickens. When you and rowdy get his coop built, I'm gonna send him some chickens- the kind that lay green and blue eggs. Have a hen hatching some now. And I have seen cattle in person. He is plenty big enough to whoop you and rowdy for roping his chickens. I think the chickens will be safe.

Krystal, I don't know what we are going to do for you. You have to shave your ass way too often. It seems like every time I talk to you there is about to be shaving going on. This is really becoming a problem.

Matt, you have like a month to get moved, build your pens, build a barn, and get a horse or mule. This will only give you a couple months to get him in shape for our little north texas outing. I think we need to move this process along!

Cheers
M

I Love seeing everybodys's pictures, Yall dig up some more of them!

Okay heres  a question, Any of yall use "Hinny's" and tell if you find any differences? on ones that you know absolute positive to be bred as a Hinny.

That little Molly of lightningh has that shorter head bigger jaw bone on her, I like that shape.
That jackstock is pretty good looking dudes too they may be slow but I figure them guys are SAFE to ride! A friend of mine has a big blue roan jennet that will get up and stretch out on the trail.

Mandi, you know when you got that much hair on your ass you have to shave it!

that is our "Outrider". His job is to throw the stove in the back of the wagon when the gun goes off to start the race and then mount his horse and  catch his team before they cross the finish line. It takes a pretty good cowboy to do that job right... it aint no easy task. and it is sure enough dangerous. you have 4 wagons with wide open out of control animals turning a barrel to face you and run past you. it takes a horse that dont get rattled and a lot of get up and go about it. Lots of the best outriders mount on the fly- Or "pony express em" as some folks call it.

Good Pictures, keep them coming!

Donks and water are not known to go together too well. I do not envy you having to pull them boys across a creek! Spurs don't mean alot to my jennet either, as much as finding that scary thing and have it with you when you need it! Motivation is always a challenge! But man they can be so smart!

Question, where and when are these kind of events going on?

That is the truth... and a Donkey is the hardest thing to pull in the world! There is no doubt in my mind that are also one of the smartest animals to ever walk....

The Mule-o games are in Quitman Arkansas. In may.

the National championship chuckwagon races are held labor day weekend in Clinton, Arkansas. It is the largest gathering of horses and mules in the world. over 5500. and 30000 people. It gets wild! ;D

And yes Arkansas has all kinds of different terrain... From Big hardwoods river bottoms to mountains... It aint a bad place at all...

Krystal
you asked about hinneys, the only thing i can tell you is they are more prone to get fat necks and fat butts then the traditional mules.
i have had a few over the years and seemed like they where a little more gentle natured.

I used to have a little half arab mule named nazeer. He was little (like 12 hands little), and was hard as hell to mount because he liked to bolt on you. He was pretty broke once you were on him, and I rode the hound dog out of him. Once up in centerville we were all riding on some cut trails through the woods. I was drinking water, and spilled a little in front of my saddle. Nazeer must not have been too keen on cold water running down his neck, because he bolted. Well, we were just in a bad spot because I wasn't turning loose of my water bottle (didn't want to have to remount the devil once I had picked up my litter), and the more I had to wrench on his face the more water shook out on him, and he would just run faster. That pint sized monster ran me right through a yaupon thicket and only stopped when the yaupons got so thick he just couldn't go anymore. I looked like I had rolled down a hill in a bag of house cats, but nazeer was none the worse for the wear.

We finished the day nicely, and I just decided not to drink and drive on nazeer. No sense arguing with a half arabian mule.

Cheers
M

Do you go over there for the Elk Hunts? we took some beatiful pictures of the Elk last year, but my daughter deleted it for me! lol.
I hiked from the house ( Thomas Grandmothers) down the trail to the little buffalo and followed it a ways, IT IS GORGEOUS, pristine country! I took pictures of the fish on the bottom, the water is so clear and clean. Hope yall have a good trip, and bring back some more pictures!
