Title: My new puppies
Post by: BigAinaBuilt on December 29, 2009, 05:39:48 pm
I had the Photobucket up so figured it would be a good time to show you guys my new puppies! The Shepherd is 10 weeks old and the same bloodline as my Primo and then the smaller of the 2 is a 6 week old Catahoula/Whippet. Let me know what you guys think!

Sorry make-em-squeel I missed your post! I have hunted behind a few shepherds and from my experiences have found that a cross will work better then a pure bred. I recently retired a Shepherd /Lab at 9 years old and in her career she had tracked and stopped well over 700 pigs but my biggest set back with her was she was far to intelligent to grab the hog and hold um and would just stop them and go to barking till it ran and because of this if my dogs weren't right next to her to "fight" the pig or if she didn't grab a nut and make him sit there were a few occasions where she ended up alot farther outta my range that I like to answer to. If you cross them up then they come out alot betteras far as I have seen. My uncle recently lost a shepherd/Elk Hound cross that was the "main" dog that I trained alot of my dogs behind adn that dog was simply amazing! If you find the thread about the BEST dogs you've hunted behind I posted a video of this cross if you'd be interested in checking it out. I have come to prefer my Shepherd crosses for my style of hunting but know of a few guys who will strongly disagree with me. Let me know if you would be interested in seeing the video and can't find it and I will see if I can dig it up for ya.

DjHogDogger- It is very interesting to watch the 2 play and even though the Shepherd is twice her size the size of her fight is amazing!

Hey BuddyLee! I am from the Big Island. I believe we have chatted a few times on the Hawaii board bout breeding dogs to get the hogs stopped.

good lookin pups, really like that cat cross!
Thanks Hogzgonewild! My cousin bred that puppy and when he told me about them I had never had the chance to run this cross but have heard great things about it so I called a female outta the litter and it just happened to only produce 2 females so I took one and he took the other. She is a cute little thing with a very outgoing attitude  and I am looking forward to getting both of them in the bush!
