EAST TEXAS HOG DOGGERS FORUM

Alan (boarninja) and I decided to try and break our streak of getting burned (last 3 hunts we got burned) another hunting buddy and his daughter came along as well Bryan and Makayla (sticknmove). We went to my spot for a morning hunt, we got there around 6:45 that morning. I brought Lilly, Hank, Lacie Loo and Red for our CD. Alan brought Meangirl, and 2 pups. And Bryan brought a young dog called Lulu. This particular place is roughly 2200 acres of giant palmettoes, lakes, creeks, thick brush, switch cane, and plenty other hurdles that make it hard for the dogs to keep up and not get burned. The dogs are all coming off a period of not hunting much so they were very frisky ;D. No real fresh sign was found at the beginning but the dogs managed to bump some dear, and of course the dogs took off being restless and wanting to run something. They were persuaded  ;) to stop that run but during that chase one or more of the older dogs managed to run across some hogs and the race was on!! We had several loose bays and breaks only to get burned in the end. All the dogs were hunting great and they were'nt getting outran from lack of try. At one point we found a big laydown and climbed up for a good vantage point. We could see the palms moving from the hogs and dogs running them. Meangirl got one lined out and took out on it, bayin several hundred yards away, drifting back towards us. The other dogs were on trails of there own trying to line them out, as Meangirl began to get closer Lulu started bayin(her I see you bark) less than a hundred yards in front of us, the other dogs were close to her and went to assist, and the fun began. Dogs and hogs were running all over the palms were alive :o, it was awesome to watch and hear. Then baying started again, Meangirl, Lilly, Lacie, and Lulu were all there. Suddenly we heard Hank(he will only bark a few times before catching, and his mouth won't open unless its a hog and he's stopped) then we heard a squeel, so we started running. We stopped and there was silence ???. We couldn't figure it out, the dogs were gathered and we pushed them further, Meangirl and Lilly were already ahead several hundred yards. Meangirl began to bay and it was solid and hard. We got there and she was in a hole, we thought dillo! But she wasn't acting normal, she usually knows she's in trouble when Alan gets to her and she is in a hole. But she didn't so we didn't get on to her and trying to push her on was impossible until Lulu began to bay solid about 50 yards away. I climbed onto a blowdown to find the dogs baying again under the tree. I got closer to investigate and I'll be danged if a piglet didn't come out right under me!! We had landed right in a nest and the dogs were running the babies. The dogs rolled out finally and Meangirl and Lulu were bayin good, we thought "thats a bigger hog and not a pig" Then all were baying and we knew when Hank got there cause this time it was caught! Only a sow and under 100#, but the streak was broken. And Makayla got her first stick great end to the day, and good start for the new year with good freinds, great dogs, and a youngsters first stick. Not to mention a couple pups first look at a hog in the woods, and at the bay puttin teeth to hog. Pics coming soon once they get them to me or post em' on here.

Was a long and rough hunt, most on foot, through the thick stuff, dogs whore out, blown pads, but success at the end. Started about 6:45 and we were pulling out around 5:45/6:00.

Its good to know we can actually catch a hog together!!!lol. I was beginning to wonder ???.

Yep! Things got a little crazy and a few things that day may stay a mystery to us but we finally caught one!
Hardest I can remember working for one little sow! 11 hours and around 15 miles of walking.  :o
Did I tell you I had two good saddle mules at the house? lol

I visited with Brian and Mac tonight and she is still grinning from ear to ear over sticking her first hog.

Mayby I am getting old, but my feet are still killin me. Had a great time with good people. What a way to ring in the new year. She forgot all about the fact that I was to take her deer hunting. She likes doggin better. Cant wait to do it again.

she has been on quite a few dry runs, but never gave up. hunting and fishng in general is something she has a passsion for.

Man, for a minute, all i seen was every dog i didnt want to see!!!! And finally,...........mmm YELLA AND BRINDLE DOGS thank god!!!!! I see how it works SAVE THE BEST FOR LAST!!!!!!!! .W.D.....

Forgot to mention about Lilly and Lulu bayed across the lake over an hour and by the time we got there it had broke, but was sure nice to hear em' bayin that solid and for that long.
Oh and for a good laugh, Alan tell them about getting stuck in the tree ;D ;D :o

On the forth pic, I just noticed 2 lacy's and a cat up on the tree with ya'll what kind of damn dog hunts hogs ia damn tree?.........Oh.... they must have been watching those yella and brindle dogs getting the job done?

Just takin a break wormy, huntin dogs do that from time to time!! They have found their share of hogs and that day was no different. But it is nice to hunt behind some good yella and brindle dogs for a change, their dogs and mine complimented eachother very well... Hows that for a rise!!!! :P

thet were playin tag. tour turn. but the yellow and brindle dogs kept jumping back in the ring so not to get burned.keeps everyone fresh.lol.the yellow dogs did have a burial cerimony for the piglets at one time.

Hey bud is that around the san jacinto river by any chance.

Its pretty close to it, the river borders the back of this property, in the pics we are about 3/4 of a mile to a mile from the river.

Sounds and looks just like a pasture we used to lease off of 1314 just north of 242.

No pasture here, just thick nasty bottom land, and far away from 1314 and 242, on the other side of 45, 2200 acres of game preserve land, off limits to hunters except me ;) Its a HOGS paradise and hunters nightmare....perfect, I love it ;D

Oh its good for doggin, get that pup started and bring her down, we can try her out with her sister(that painted up runt gyp I kept) and give them a good test all around!

When she gets a little more age and size on her, I'll take you up on that offer. And I can return the favor if you don't mind driving to Madisonville. We normally go horseback. Do you have a steed? 

Ninja- hah, but your probably right, I do love those 10 ft. palms ;D, well you go for the beef tomorrow and I'll go for the pork, your gonna be sick if we get ol' bigboy!
toby- I'll take you up on that as well, Madisonville isn't too far, I have ran there a time or two, I don't have a horse, but know a ninja with a couple saddle mule ;D, guess that don't count though.

Will do. So far so good. I thought I was getting a bay dog but I think you might have switched her out for a catch dog ;D. If there is a gate in the way she will bay her heart out but take away the gate and she is caught.

Yep! You will probably catch big boy tomorrow but I have caught so much hell from these Texas folks (wife and son included) that I just feel the need to be here when when the Tide completely consumes ole Bevo tomorrow!

Ah ninja, you'll be the first to know the outcome, and since good ol' Meangirl won't be going, I'm takin the entire posse, so if we find him we'll get him! Hopefully ;)
