Title: Good hunt, bad hunt... RIP Tiger Post by: Mike on January 07, 2010, 02:57:51 am Well, we started out with a real good hunt catching six hogs in two hours. It was Chris, Mandi, John and our old retired hunting buddy Jason. As we were tying the big boar, the dogs rolled out and were baying a couple hundred yards from us. Evidently Tiger caught and met his maker. I believe he was on his way to being an exceptional dog. A little over 1 1/2 years old and has consistently been striking hogs the last six months. Very independant and would range out 500 to 1,000 yards hunting on a regular basis. His only downfall was that he was rough. But i've raised several dogs like that and they usually figured it out by the time they were two or found a new home... I was hoping he would figure it out also. Tonight is a prime example of why I don't run rough dogs anymore.
We got all the hogs back, weighed, loaded and called it a night. Here's a few pics... First two hogs... big sow weighed in at 235 lbs. and small boar at 80 lbs. (http://img.photobucket.com/albums/v311/DEERHUNTER280/1-06-10I.jpg) Second two hogs... 115 lb. boar and 175 lb. sow. (http://img.photobucket.com/albums/v311/DEERHUNTER280/1-06-10II.jpg) Fifth hog... big boar at 275 lbs on the scale. (http://img.photobucket.com/albums/v311/DEERHUNTER280/1-06-10III.jpg) (http://img.photobucket.com/albums/v311/DEERHUNTER280/1-06-10IV.jpg) (http://img.photobucket.com/albums/v311/DEERHUNTER280/1-06-10V.jpg) Last hog... fat girl. This is probably the fattest hog i've caught or seen by body size. She has a 60 lb frame but weighed in at 110 lbs! :o (http://img.photobucket.com/albums/v311/DEERHUNTER280/1-06-10VI.jpg) Title: Re: Good hunt, bad hunt... (http://i129.photobucket.com/albums/p204/ccoughran/DSC02790.jpg) We will have to make another run out there before too long, that was fun. RIP Tiger. Title: Re: Good hunt, bad hunt... RIP Tiger Post by: aladatrot on January 07, 2010, 09:02:29 am Its amazing how you can go from high fives and feeling great about a hunt to long faces and "darn" within just a few moments. That spot where tiger went down was a rotten hellhole of vines and brush. I know on the way in to find him I was hoping he was caught up in green vines and just couldn't free himself. As we got closer to him and all was still quiet i was getting painfully less optimistic about the outcome. He was an excellent dog, and having been right there beside him the day his "switch" turned on for hogs, I felt as proud of him as if he were mine. Watching him turn into a dog at such a young age was a thrill, and he could be counted on to find hogs on his own.
I'm very sorry about tiger, I wish there was something that could have been done. It was a darned cheap shot. Cheers M Title: Re: Good hunt, bad hunt... RIP Tiger Post by: Mike on January 07, 2010, 09:16:02 am Thanks everone... it's always the good ones that go.
R.I.P Tiger did yall catch the one that killed him? We didn't even see him. The two pups that were there bayed with him sure gave him a run for his money... maybe we'll find him next time. Title: Re: Good hunt, bad hunt... RIP Tiger Post by: Bump on January 07, 2010, 09:22:22 am That was a good haul. Yall put some pork down.

Title: Re: Good hunt, bad hunt... RIP Tiger Post by: Circle C on January 07, 2010, 10:30:03 am Quote Surely that isn't JML there in that fourth pic!! He getting the itch, or what? JML's itch was so strong, he just called me and told me he bought Bo back. I'd say it's not too often that people are able to get out of hunting for a year, then be able to buy their best dog back and hit the ground running again. Title: Re: Good hunt, bad hunt... R.I.P Tiger Title: Re: Good hunt, bad hunt... RIP Tiger Post by: Monteria on January 07, 2010, 06:12:49 pm Bummer man, sorry to hear that!
Every one gets theirs in the end though. My dog that died from a rattle snake bite a couple months ago, last nigh my roommate shot the boar who tempted him to escape his kennel. Gratification was delayed by several months but that boar got his in the end..... A slicktrick tipped carbon arrow in the heart! Title: Re: Good hunt, bad hunt... RIP Tiger Post by: crackerc on January 07, 2010, 06:51:56 pm Hate to hear about you losing a good young dog that was really coming on for you. That kind is hard to replace, no doubt.
What are those hogs feeding on to be that fat? Deer feeders, crops, or?? Title: Re: Good hunt, bad hunt... RIP Tiger Post by: Mike on January 07, 2010, 07:17:05 pm What are those hogs feeding on to be that fat? Deer feeders, crops, or?? Mark, we don't have a clue and were just talking about that last night. There are some milo fileds nearby, but I haven't seen hogs this fat even during grain season... the little pigs are the same way. Here's a couple pics from last year when we first hunted the place. (http://img.photobucket.com/albums/v311/DEERHUNTER280/9-09-08V.jpg) (http://img.photobucket.com/albums/v311/DEERHUNTER280/6-26-08IV.jpg) Title: Re: Good hunt, bad hunt... RIP Tiger Post by: BigAinaBuilt on January 07, 2010, 07:20:55 pm Damn Mike! I really liked Tiger and looked forward to hearing how he turned out! Sorry to hear he got a little to excited! Those are definately some fat hogs!
Title: Re: Good hunt, bad hunt... RIP Tiger Post by: crackerc on January 07, 2010, 07:24:11 pm I don't have any experience with milo fields (there aren't any down here) but those sure are some fat healthy looking hogs.
Our poor hogs live on palmettos and pine straw so they don't EVER look like those......... :P Maybe I need to plant some milo in the woods!! Title: Re: Good hunt, bad hunt... RIP Tiger Post by: sfboarbuster on January 07, 2010, 07:28:03 pm Those suckers are OBESE!!!!!!!!!

Title: Re: Good hunt, bad hunt... RIP Tiger Post by: John on January 07, 2010, 09:25:53 pm Hey Mike, I butchered that 175 lb. sow and she had about 1 1/2 inches of fat on her back and on the belly inside there was about an inch of fat on the inside flap of the rib cage. That's going to be some good eating pork.
