Just wondered if yall hunt off horse back, atv/utv's, walk hunt, or hood hunt? we hunt all these different ways. but do alot of walk hunting

We walk hunt

normally walk hunt...sometimes i will road the dogs to start the hunt then go to walk hunting to get off in the woods...

Road them in front of the truck.

Generally I pick a spot and cast.  If the dogs return empty handed we will relocate and cast again.

I also hunt out of a boat some.  Basicly ride till the dogs wind or I see fresh sign and cast out.

I have hunted from trucks after casting the hounds, rig hunting where the cur dog barks and bails, hunted off of airboats, atv's, bass boats, horses and mules (the real mules not the atv...LOL) but now I mostly hunt on foot.......  ;D

I tried hunting off of horses but my bulldogs want to eat the horse. >:D

Hood hunt.. Its way warmer.. ;D

Road'em or Wind'em

Our dogs wind off the truck - the CD rides until (if) needed.

combo of utv, walk, and road. it just depends

Depends on the place, walk, road, spotlight.....

We do it all!!  But prefer to hunt off horse!!! When hunting off horse things are way more queit and you can here the dogs another thing is you can ride all the way to the bay see alot more cause you are sitting up high and can step wright off and catch the hog (not  winded when you get there)!!!  Must all my horse's will listen for the dogs and know to go to them!!! Oh and get there way much faster!!


Last but not least the hog will  not break as bad if he see's you on a horse as  if the hog see's you on foot!!!

We have hunted about every way you can but these days we dont do much walking. It would be nice to hunt out of a truck with the weather like it is but where we hunt it just isnt possible.

cward we have been hunting off horse back lately and love it! just dont loke that the bulldog has to walk the whole way! then get on a good hog and is tired. do you carry your dog on the horse with you?

look for fresh sign or already have an idea of where we wanna go.

I usually walk hunt or hunt them ahead of the 4 wheeler. Depends on where I am. Most of my dogs are short to medium range and if I walk them , I can see whats going on in the woods, as far as sign, feed in the woods (acorns, palmetto berries, etc), water. Hard to do that from the road. And I just like being in the woods. If I catch a hog, thats just a bonus!

If I hunt them ahead of the 4 wheeler they tend to wear out quicker and are not as fresh when we do get on a hog. Especially if its hot. So I walk hunt more than anything else.

Let them wind from the truck, 4 wheeler, or airboat.  Walk sometimes but not to often. I like to put them on top the box and ride. I can cover a lot of ground fast that way.

Walk hunt mostly, but road em alittle.

Boat, atv, or truck. We rig or find a big track to put on.

ROAD THEM IN THE TRUCK WITH THE HEATER ON ;D

An air boat would be cool!

My favorite way is horse/mule back. Its like hunting on foot without getting tired! ;D

I usually try to hunt what ever way is most practical for the area Im hunting but I find myself sitting on my 4 wheeler a lot more than I care to these days. They sure are handy with getting live hogs out though.

Canoes in flooded river bottoms, rivers and swamps are a blast and very productive when things are flooded. Some of my most memorable hog hunts where in a canoe on the Trinity river bottom. Give it a try if you ever get the chance.
Wheelers and horses in big cattle country.
Jeep/trucks in good roaded country.
Horse back and on foot in the Piney woods.
 
Im like most other hog hunters I guess. If I just landed a good spot to hunt hogs on the moon then I would be in the market for a moon buggy! :D

You name it.  Whatevert the sirtuation demands...  I prefer to walk hunt just for the quiet factor....but I guess if I had big enuff properties I,d rather hunt ahorseback... I. Like to hear what the dogs are doikg, part of the engjoyyment for me I guess.... Don't carew for the sound of motors or conversation when my dogs are out.

I know this wasn't directed towards me but thought I would throw in my 2 cents anyways. My farrier's (which I go hunting with occassionaly) catchdog rides on the horse in order to keep him from wearing out but my cousins group has the catchdog (bulldog) walk beside the horses until they hear a bay and then they are gone. The weekend after Christmas I went with them and we caught 2 and traveled about 10 miles and the catchdogs were just as ready to go when we got back to the trailer as they were when we left it. Its just like anybody or any animal it takes some getting into shape in order to do it but they will eventually get there.

I freecast mine from the truck. I point them the direction I won't them to hunt and send them. After they bay, I drive as close as I can in the mule.
