Title: Here's a monster for "Monster Quest" Post by: Mike on May 31, 2008, 03:43:28 pm Chris and Mandi invited Matt and I out on hunt last night to run some corn fields outside of LaGrange.
At 3:00 A.M. we were neck deep in a creek wrestling with this big boy! ;D (http://img.photobucket.com/albums/v311/DEERHUNTER280/5-31-08I.jpg) (http://img.photobucket.com/albums/v311/DEERHUNTER280/5-31-08II.jpg) Title: Re: Here's a monster for "Monster Quest" Post by: jdt on May 31, 2008, 04:33:44 pm well,i for 1 want to hear the rest of the story ............ with a hog like that there has to be more to hear

Title: Re: Here's a monster for "Monster Quest" Post by: Mike on May 31, 2008, 08:44:32 pm Thanks guys! My camera sucks, so I think the others got some better pictures of him.
Tim, we were going to, but his tusk on the other side was broke off. :'( Title: Re: Here's a monster for "Monster Quest" Post by: matt_aggie04 on May 31, 2008, 08:54:04 pm We were hunting the corn and came to an area where the corn was to our left with about 50 yard of pasture to our right with a wooded creek bottom bordering the pasture. We noticed that Smiley, Lizzie and Tweety were nose down and then saw them tracking towards the creek bottom. We got real quite and waited....then all three dogs opened up all at once and then a very serious bay. In no time the rest of the dogs got there and were bayed solid. We stepped over the cross fence and cut the bulldogs loose and all you could hear was brush crashing, HEAVY grunting and dogs still baying so we eased in to find them about 30-40ft straight down a vertical bank in the creek with the hog. The hog got his nose up in the creek bank and dogs had him caught. I thought he was a lot smaller then he was because all I could really only see the top of the head. I take off my valuable items, keys, wallet etc. Ease down the bank and then jump in what I thought was waist deep water and ended being about neck deep water :o!! I get the hog legged go to stick him and I drop my knife in the water!...about this time Mike joins me in the creek for a swim and because of the thick shield has HECK getting the hog stuck. The hog finally dies and we spend the next hour and half getting the big SOB up that steep bank by hand so that we can see what he will weigh. We didn't score him because his left side is broken off about 2" but the right is a solid three inches but bery thick teeth.
I will say this was a group effort to say the least, had all four of us not been there to help each other out I would prolly still be down there in that creek ;D hahaha. You fellas guess the weight on this one and see how close you can get...... 8) Title: Re: Here's a monster for "Monster Quest" Post by: Rowdy on May 31, 2008, 09:00:03 pm my guess is 310 lbs

Title: Re: Here's a monster for "Monster Quest" Post by: Circle C on June 02, 2008, 09:02:48 am Interesting thing about the field where we caught this hog. I have only hunted this field three times, and the first time we caught nothing, second time we caught our largest hog to date, and the third time we caught this guy.
If you will notice the right ear. That did not happen on this hunt, it was from a previous battle. (http://i129.photobucket.com/albums/p204/ccoughran/DSC01203.jpg) (http://i129.photobucket.com/albums/p204/ccoughran/DSC01194.jpg) Here are the dogs that made things happen. Smiley, Tweety, and Lizzie (http://i129.photobucket.com/albums/p204/ccoughran/DSC01215.jpg) (http://i129.photobucket.com/albums/p204/ccoughran/DSC01224-1.jpg) (http://i129.photobucket.com/albums/p204/ccoughran/DSC01226-1.jpg) This photo is the first hog we ever caught in this field. Also when I caped him out yesterday Chris the tooth that was broken off does not even come close to lining up with the whetter and I bet was a huge cutter before it was broken off. I will take a pics later and put it up. Great fun with yall this weekend, can't wait to do it again!!........just give me a little while to recover, I am still sore from draggin that hog ;D
Title: Re: Here's a monster for "Monster Quest" Post by: Circle C on June 02, 2008, 09:20:00 am Matt,
It took until yesterday evening until I started feeling "right" again. Being awake from 7:00 am until 5:00 pm the next day took a toll on this porker.... I felt hungover. I am ready to run again. Y'all just say the word, and I will get headed Westbound. Title: Re: Here's a monster for "Monster Quest" Post by: elliscountyhog on June 02, 2008, 10:57:23 am :o Nice hog!!! See matt u in shape guys get to the bay faster and get to see all the action but without us big boys it is tuff to get them bigguns under controll ;D.
Title: Re: Here's a monster for "Monster Quest" Post by: uglydog on June 02, 2008, 12:59:54 pm Yeah, I was jealous when I got the phone pic, no doubt. That is a really nice hog, we came up empty handed that night on our hunt, so had to make it out again the next night we got a pretty good one but does not compare to yalls boar, guess I will just have to keep trying ;D that is my excuse anyway.
Matt, I figured as wound up as you were, all jacked up on all that syrup ;) that yall could have jerked him right out f that water hole. !!!! Mandi, I can tell you were the smartest in the bunch, you were still clean! Title: Re: Here's a monster for "Monster Quest" Post by: Circle C on June 02, 2008, 01:05:23 pm Krystal,
Next time y'all should join us. I think the big hogs are North of I10, not South ;D ;D Title: Re: Here's a monster for "Monster Quest" Post by: matt_aggie04 on June 02, 2008, 01:06:59 pm My syrup had fizzled by the time we hit this boar hahaha, we were all kinda getting a little tired till they opened up and then the adrenaline kicked in and I was ready to go. Derrick said yall got on a good one Sat night. Post some pics of the hog and tell that boy to send me some pics of that worthless yella dog he has ;).
Title: Re: Here's a monster for "Monster Quest" Post by: aladatrot on June 02, 2008, 04:26:49 pm Yeah, I was clean... I had stuffed my badly blistered foot into a boot for this hunt, and was having "issues". My eyes were watering a little when I was headed to the bay, so I'm thankful Mike and Matt hopped in. I got to babysit items of clothing, keys, phones, wallets, and cameras on the slippery slope while clinging to a tree. I was also a dog holder for a bit. I don't like that helpless feeling, either. I much prefer to be caught on an ear than up on the bank, but I feared getting all that nasty water into my then-busted burn blisters. Sorry for the gory details, but our hunting party along with Krystal and Thomas had to endure the sight of my foot during dinner - so consider yourselves spared by only having to read about it and not see it. The action was sick, though. Smiley, Lizzie, and Tweety sounded like a trio of church singers when they opened up all at the same moment. That Lizzie dog has a different bark for smaller pigs versus big ones, so when I heard her, I knew we either had a group bayed or a big hog. We start running (hobbling), cut catch dogs loose, and hear what we thought was brush crashing. Turned out to be the whole bay crashing down into the water. Those dogs were swimming in the water, trying to grab ahold when Matt bailed in the water before he could even see the hog (it was holed up under a bank). Matt grabs hog, realizes three things - (1) this is a huge hog, (2) his knife is missing, and (3) he is in deep water. Mike shucks his outer layer of clothes and dives in, trying to stick the hog with that spear he normally carries on his belt. It was pretty neat when the hog finally expired and the guys got to really look at the hog. Mike had to babysit the hog in the water while we took out dogs. I'm pretty sure he was on the lookout for gators during his dark time in the water. Once we got back, the process of getting Mr Hog outta there began. It was slow going. The banks were STEEP and SLICK. Mr Hog was HEAVY and UNCOOPERATIVE. I think we used 50 feet of mule tape to heave him out 6" at a time. It took Chris and Matt pulling up the bank, Mike trying to get a foot hold and pushing from below, and me trying dallied off to a tree trying to snatch up the slack and keep Mr Hog from scampering back down into the creek in between heaves. Great Times. Maybe I won't be all crippled up for the next trip. M Title: Re: Here's a monster for "Monster Quest" Post by: matt_aggie04 on June 02, 2008, 04:33:32 pm Thats when you know your tuff, all that work and I completely forgot about your foot, which looked like hell by the way. You gotta learn to complain more ;D
Title: Re: Here's a monster for "Monster Quest" Post by: Clay on June 02, 2008, 04:35:00 pm Dang thats a hog glad i wasnt the one pulling on that mule tape. ;)
Title: Re: Here's a monster for "Monster Quest" Post by: Mike on June 02, 2008, 05:19:48 pm Krystal... I told you and Thomas at dinner y'all shoulda came with us! :P :P :P
Title: Re: Here's a monster for "Monster Quest" Post by: aladatrot on June 02, 2008, 06:24:45 pm Matt,
I think forcing my foot into that boot was good for it. I spent yesterday walking better in flippies, and today wore a boot again without pain. Getting the boot off is another story, but i think I'm out of the woods. That foot REALLY looked bad two years ago when I stepped off into a pot of boiling crawfish water and got third degree burns on it. Doc was talking skin grafts, but I'm too headstrong and cheap to listen. It healed up with almost no scarring. I think that's why that foot responded so badly to sunburn. A sunburn that bad has never happened to me before. I know it was yuck, sorry I had to have it on display in my flippies. I think it is almost better now, and I can't let being a cripple interfere with good hunting :O) M Title: Re: Here's a monster for "Monster Quest" Post by: Circle C on June 03, 2008, 08:16:06 am Same field produced a 345# boar last night. This hog was bayed and shot within a few hundred yards of where we caught the 305 on Friday night.
