DOES ANYONE HAVE BOTH YAGI AND WHIP ? NEGATIVES ON THE YAGI ? THNX Title: Re: GARMIN LONG RANGE Post by: Monteria on January 23, 2010, 01:56:38 pm Yagi antennas are directional by design. The compact design does provide more range for the size, when pointed the correct direction, by virtue of increased antenna area (total length and cross section of all "fins" combined).
Whip antennas are non-directional so you do not have to "point" it in the correct direction to achieve maximum range. A Yagi antenna with a total receptive surface, say 40" for the sake of the argument, will have only slight range advantage over a 40" whip tuned to the same frequency. BUT, it must be pointed in the correct direction to achieve that modest advantage. Pointed in the wrong direction, a yagi should provide less range than the whip. I have no idea about pricing or purchase location. Is that what you were asking? Steve Title: Re: GARMIN LONG RANGE Post by: Dirtydog on January 23, 2010, 05:02:32 pm VERY BIG THNX STEVE.
