EAST TEXAS HOG DOGGERS FORUM

When I got started hunting about 8 years ago, I ran with a friend who had a bluetick (best find dog I ever known) and a couple of BMCs.  During our hunting adventures, we were constantly trying new dogs and trying to better our pack.  We went through a handful of catahoula dogs and I had never had one that was worth feeding.  Well, long story short, all of my dogs now are catahoulas with the exception of one.  A friend of mine had purchased a catahoula dog from Mr Mason named Huey and he changed my opinon of cat dogs. My question is, what breeds of dogs would absolutely not feed no matter what, or what breed of dog are you feeding now that you once said you would never feed?

I tend to despise individual dogs, not breeds.   Though for a number of years I swore there would never be a pit on my yard...Now there's one pit and one pit cross.... :o

Beejay there are alot of them I don't care to get to know any better to find the one good apple in the bunch, but that being said, I am sure if someone found a dog in any breed with the qualities I like, I would be open minded enough to look harder at it , to give it small chance anyway. yOu got a picture of Huey?

and that'd be Pitbulls.  not so much cause of the dog but because the majority of the people that bred em just bred pit to pit and didn't care if the dog had a sound temperment or not.  and then you get all the thugs that have em to make up for their shortcomings in the manhood department and i'm just really turned off to them.  I have met ONE that i really liked and that was Krystal Rohan's Titus dog.  Amazing the difference in a dog if he's actually bred right.

The only purebreed dogs I use while hunting is pits. They are my preference for catchdogs. Everything else is hound/cur crosses. The only dog that I dont want in my cross's is a catahoula. I have heard about good ones I just have never seen one.

I'm with Chris on this one...not so much specific breeds I dislike as much as specific dogs.

Other than my catchdogs (and one Plott puppy), everything else on my yard are straight Black Mouths.  Even having said that, I would NOT make the blanket statement that I love Black Mouths...what I love are Black Mouths that meet my expectations.

I've seen good and bad in all breeds and crosses.

I'll bite.  I won't ever own a walker.  Write that down.  I've hunted around some nice ones.  I just have personally chose to never hunt one.  It's my choice, and I'm entitled to it. >:D

Poodles, I swear everytime I'm around one all they seem to want to do is yap and bite. Its hard for me to think that those little fuzzy things were actually bred down from 50 lb. hunting dogs. I really think they forget to put brains in half the ones under 10 lbs.

dabutcher, don't get me started on thugs and bad breedings of pits. I could ramble all day.    ;D

IMO, the breed does not make a dog, I have picked up skinny strayes on the side of the road when I first started and had some good SOB's. I even had a great dane looking dog that would catch hogs and coyotes. IMO it is the training and the amount of hunting you do to make a dog. If it's got any hunt in it then it will make a dog, if not then that is a dog that I despise.  ;D

A friend of mine picked up a free lab from a newspaper classified. He said it was one of the best hogdogs he ever owned.

Evidently you two have never had to have a dog that could bay a hog while jumping through a ring of fire.  When the day comes, you will change your mind.

Heelers have a tendancy to like to be growly around other dogs.  JMO

Im like most of you guys I dont despise any one breed of dog,They all have a place some where. Take my place I have a Great Piranese(forgive the spelling)Not good for any thing but eating and sleeping all day. BUT when you pull up in my drive way she is the first thing that comes to see you.She is about 120lbs of white hair coming at you barking.Great way to keep people at bay till you get to see who it is.Aint that right Rick.

Ridgebacks.....all the ones ive seen are to catchy for me.

I am with the general opinion here, if it produces the meat a high % of the time, the way i like, and the good out weighs the bad, then i will feed it. but if i had to pick a breed, it would walker hounds. i just dont like them,

A cur dog that opens on track. Never seen one of those. This could be the downfall of cur world  as we no it!! Cull her fast. ;D

There is a difference in a dog that can light a hog's tail up, and one that will jump through a burning hoop to do it.  Which on is she?  I may be interested in crossing her on my hounds to add some hunt to their purdy.

I could not agree more.  Dang snake food ain't hangin around my house either.

PIT,PITS,PITS.I dont trust them but do they think they make great CDs.The only problem comes when some snap after a few years and attack you or your dogs.I am not saying they all will snap but everyone I have dealt with sooner or later lived up to thier reputation.I love a pit cross just not a full blooded one.

And then I have had 4 in my life time and they all got along well with other dogs. MOst didnt like strangers, but that was OK with me.

One of the best cow dogs I ever saw was a 1/2 heeler and 1/2 BMC. She'd work both ends of a cow

I can't stand chow chows.  There used to be a breeder up the road from my house and her dogs used to come in my yard ang gang up on my hunting dogs while they were chained up.  It stopped one day when my walker x pit dog happened to be off his chain and sent them packing... all three of them!

Just HAPPENED to be off his chain. ;D I like that.

I agree with cutter bay...im not a fan of heelers for the same reason, they tend to be mean  JMO i know there not all like that!

Chows, Poodles, any toy breeds! No home in my yard, however I'll feed any dog needing it until they are picked up ;) I know..I know SUCKER!

Anything that fits in a purse or has to have a sweater on to go outside.  Other than that if it will hunt I will feed it. 

I can't stand a Chow. Seems like everyone I ever saw wanted to bite me!

Pudge I am with you on the Chows,I have never seen one that wouldnt bite.I cant believe that wsnt my first response.
