Title: making tracking collars more secure
Post by: T-Bob Parker on February 06, 2010, 11:55:29 am
I don't own a tracking unit so I don't know if this is feasible but ive heard of a lot of stolen dogs lately where the collar is found in a ditch and the dog is gone,  so... could you take the tracking box off of the collar and attach it to a medium size chain and lock it the dogs neck to secure the collar? its seems like if someone had to catch your dog and cut the collar off with bolt cutters it may keep the honest folks honest.  This seems like a good idea to me but can they just push a button and turn your collar off?  If so that would be the downfall of my million dollar idea  ???

The garmin collars can be shut off by a button, the Radio telemetry collars require a magnet placed in them to shut them down. The Garmin are also set up where you can't replace them on another collar because the way the Antenna is wired.
The Telemetry collars will stop working when smashed.
