Title: Homemade Cut Collars Post by: grittydog on February 11, 2010, 05:44:06 pm I made these 2 cut collars out of High Pressure water hose. 1 is 5-1/4'' and the smaller one is 3-1/2'' and they fit my dogs well. They are flexible and tough. Has anybody ever used this type material before? I still need seal the ends. JT

Title: Re: Homemade Cut Collars Post by: grittydog on February 11, 2010, 07:51:09 pm Dexter,
It is fire hose, I get them at work when they get new ones. I am thinking about putting Velcro on the underside to hold it in place while I strap it on.. I have rivits all the way around it. It would probally be cheaper to buy them, it is kind of a project. Most that I have seen are being built/used in Australia, but I'm sure plenty of guys here have/do as well.

I find webbing on jobsites all the time. Free strap, some rivets and old collars and ten minutes and bingo-bongo, cut collar

I built them out of leather weight lifting belts, and nylon lifting straps. They sucked!!!
I like these though! They should do fine. Title: Re: Homemade Cut Collars Post by: ESTEBAN_B on February 12, 2010, 08:24:12 pm cool collars JT!! I rather buy them than go through the hassle!! I hope they work out great for you!
Title: Re: Homemade Cut Collars Post by: BigAinaBuilt on February 13, 2010, 01:54:54 am I made a couple of my own because I needed a 4 n a half incher for 2 of my dogs but I found the expensive part of doing it yourself is the buckles, So I use zip ties on my collars and they work perfect! I will post a few pics of my collars tommorow for everyone to check out!
Title: Re: Homemade Cut Collars Post by: T-Bob Parker on February 13, 2010, 11:12:19 am I went to petsmart last time and talked to the management about discontinued collars and got 25 orange dog collars for 15 bucks, but in the past I just stripped down old dry rotted horse tack for parts. Not expensive at all on my end
Title: Re: Homemade Cut Collars Post by: W-tate on February 13, 2010, 11:59:36 am I make my own out of 4 inch. Ratchet strap. Riveted to. Singel ply dog collars. And some stiching on the ends. Use goop. Or 3m adhisive. To hold the two layers of strap. Together
