Title: puppy question...baying style and age Post by: buddylee on February 17, 2010, 10:01:55 pm Hope I can phrase this right without confusing everyone. I would hope the folks who choose to respond to this would have raised enough litters to have a clue. My question is, Is there a certain age or amount of working time with hogs that you would feel comfortable in saying that whatever baying style and working of a hog would be evident ? I have two pups from the same litter. I only plan to keep one and I would obviously like to know as soon as possible how each dog is gonna work a hog, to be exact I want an aggressive bay dog and to go after the rear if the hog decides to break. Anyone ever tried to figure this out ?
Title: Re: puppy question...baying style and age Post by: 3-Bdogs on February 17, 2010, 10:33:59 pm i believe first to figure it out you need to know its genetics on both sides some dogs start early some take some time and even then you really won't know i believe a dog is in training til least 2 yrs old even then they can throw you for a loop i have a 7 1/2 yr old dog that always bays loose til lately Idk if about anyone else but to know 100 % is almost impossible JMO
Title: Re: puppy question...baying style and age Post by: Noah on February 18, 2010, 07:39:31 pm Think about it all day every day... talked to enough dog men to finally realize... you can breed 50 yrs for good dogs..... once or twice in a that time a great dog finds you.... and typically it seems they come from somewhere you never expected....
From what I've seen, you never know how a dog's really gonna turn out till he's dead... all one can do is put time into the ones that show promise... and hope for the best.
