Title: Garmin (good boar) Post by: boarwild on February 22, 2010, 12:57:39 pm i figured since i rarely read a Garmin story that is good that i would post our story from last friday night. LAWLERSHOGWILDHUNTS (Marty and Sandy) and my wife went out last friday night. I got my Garmin in the mail two days earlier, so i figured lets take it for a try out with Marty's dogs and one of my pups. The bad part of this story is it was my pups first night out and he got his eye pocked real bad by a mesquite bush. Although he is fine now he was in some bad pain that night with blood all in his eye so he didn't get to be on the kill. Anyways. We pulled in to ranch and dropped dogs. i had two of my collars on his dogs. We dropped and within 5 minutes all the dogs were gone. We hear one bark off and the distance and then it just stopped. We stood there wandering what was goin on. Well Marty's wife was way out in front of us becuase she could hear the dogs bayed. The wind a little strong and the place is was so thick that we couldn't hear her yelling at us and walkie talkies weren't even on our mind. Marty and i stood there talking about where they could be and what we should do. Duh Matt look at the Garmin. Garmin showed on of his very good dogs treed 580 yards away. We grabbed the pits and took off walkin as i didn't have much confidence in the Garmin yet and really still don't. As we got about 150 yards away all we could hear is a grunting hog. The strike dogs and help dogs already had it caught as Marty runs very gritty dogs all around. We'll we released the pits and went in and got this big guy stuck. Now i'm not saying we wouldn't have caught this boar without this Garmin, but man did it make the night so much easier. i marked the pig and we took all the dogs to the truck. We went back and got the head with ease using the Garmin. i know things may happen bad with it some day, but for now i 100% approve. not one dog had a cut on him that even needed attention. just a few scrapes. i took this picture with my phone but maybe Sandy will add some good ones.

In the past year the garmin showing treed even though we couldnt hear the dogs or lone strike dog bayed due to them being in a slew or creek or high winds until we got within 100-400 yards saved us and got us an extra 4-5 hogs we wouldnt have even known to get to. GO GARMIN
