Title: Re: best cur and why Post by: country man 563 on February 22, 2010, 09:32:56 pm JMO id go with a black mouth, never personal hunted with a kemmer cur. but a black mouth is just a all around good cur for the fact they where breed as a working dog. i know in my area alot off the old timers used black mouths to work cows in the morning and hunt hogs in the afternoon. so go with a black mouth
Title: Re: best cur and why Post by: rdjustham on February 22, 2010, 09:36:38 pm id pick one with a great family disposition, out of working lines ive hunted behind, with a good nose and silent on trail, breed would be last. ive had a bmc, got a fl cur and a leopard never hunted a kemmer, partin, or the other dozen lines but if it fit the above id feed it
Title: Re: best cur and why Post by: elliscountyhog on February 23, 2010, 09:36:41 am If i had to pick one cur dog to have in my yard it would be a Parker Cur, I like them they are breed to do one thing and that is hunt.
Title: Re: best cur and why Post by: Kyle0329 on February 23, 2010, 10:00:32 am would have to agee with ellis, parker curs are the way to go...every dog in my yard has parker blood in them they just have alot of drive and bottom in them and when you turn them out the box they have one thing on there mind and that is to find a hog no matter how far they have to go
Title: Re: best cur and why Post by: Dexter on February 23, 2010, 10:13:33 am I am going to have to say the catahoula. they are loyal hard working and dont know the word cant and smart as a whip
that has the brains to do any job or jobs you want them to do. they are a little gritty for some folks due to the fact that they are real catchy and very seldom will the catch dogs get cut off the leads Thats what we raise and thats all ill raise other than our dogos and dogo crosses for a little more help when needed JMO Dexter Title: Re: best cur and why Post by: airduster29 on February 23, 2010, 10:39:56 am the blackmouth is my way they are rough and smart lots of drive very versatil to adapt to your style of hunt
Title: Re: best cur and why Post by: mzhoghunter on February 23, 2010, 10:51:38 am black mouths are the only cur for hog hunting IMO
Title: Re: best cur and why Post by: chainrated on February 23, 2010, 12:24:24 pm Look for a dog that hunts the way you want and produces you hogs on a consistant basis . Don't get caught up on one specific breed , just look for a hogdog..
Title: Re: best cur and why Post by: make-em-squeel on February 23, 2010, 01:45:00 pm BMC are bred for rank cattle and hogs. Kemmers are bred for squirrell etc. I love a good BMC and thats my preference, with that said hogstalker has a kemmer that I would feed any day of the week.
Title: Re: best cur and why Post by: keyserdawg on February 23, 2010, 02:19:48 pm Cross one of your plotts with a good bmc or kemmer ;)
Title: Re: best cur and why Post by: makenbeans on February 23, 2010, 03:12:38 pm I would hunt BMC, however get 1 of each!
Title: Re: best cur and why Post by: Cull Buck on February 23, 2010, 03:45:44 pm As long as it is yellow and has a black mouth I don't care what kind of cur it is. ;D
Title: Re: best cur and why Post by: ETHHunters on February 23, 2010, 03:53:48 pm Cross one of your plotts with a good bmc or kemmer ;) There's some good advice!Title: Re: best cur and why Post by: HogzgoneWild on February 23, 2010, 05:56:23 pm I have lacy's and cats, but if I had to pick out of mine on a basis of consistensy, grit, drive, ect......cat!!! But I have hunted behind some great BMC's as well, so I wouldn't make my basis on breed, just ability!
Title: Re: best cur and why Post by: crackerc on February 24, 2010, 09:50:57 am The best curs for hog hunting are the ones that find hogs consistently, on different properties. I don't care what color they are.............. :o
But for me, they have to be able to do it alone...with no help. Thats the hardest thing for me to find when I go looking for an outside dog to breed to. Title: Re: best cur and why Post by: Drue on February 24, 2010, 03:42:35 pm If i had to pick one cur dog to have in my yard it would be a Parker Cur, I like them they are breed to do one thing and that is hunt.
agree with Ellis on that 25 in three hunt this month behind two parker dogs. The biggest problem is getting them to quit. Title: Re: best cur and why Post by: TexasJ on February 24, 2010, 07:07:25 pm It's hard to go wrong with yellow dogs.
BMC. Title: Re: best cur and why Post by: goose on February 24, 2010, 09:55:17 pm if you can find it and put your finger on it what the best cur hogdog is then plz tell me your secret...in the mean time hunt with several different breeds and get your own opinion...but remember to each his own and to stay open minded...theres gna be the good the bad and the ugly in every breed out there...if it can bring home the bacon by itself on a consistent basis then that is what i consider a HOGDOG...jmo of course
