Title: Dogs won't eat
Post by: levibarcus on March 05, 2010, 03:01:10 pm
I have two dogs that won't eat today. They won't eat the feed I normaly feed them and they won't eat raw meat either which is really strange. They pick at it but won't eat like the other dogs who were done eating in short order. Any ideas on what may be causing this and what I can do to get them eating again. They have been wormed but are not in the shape I'd like to see them in.

What have you wormed them with?  We rescued a pit one time that was horrible looking and we wormed him with horse wormer, the paste.  Regular milk doesnt have enough in it so we then force fed him a can of Ensure twice a day and then he started feeling a little better and we just kept giving him the Ensure over his dog food.  He was an older dog that brought the Corona's disease to our place.

Have you noticed their poop?  If it's black tar looking, they could have Corona's disease.  if they have had thier shots, they should be ok but if not, then if they have been around another grown dog thats a carrier...then they could have got it.   It's a long process alott like parvo in a pup but, they can get over it...they key is keeping them hydrated...if you dont, they will die.  Probly have to consult a vet on this one.

Another bad fact to this is every pup under 6 months old will get it and if untreater they will die in about 2 days.  it mirrors Parvo and gets in the ground also.

I have battled this every time we bring in a new pup.  It's a given they will get it, I just keep pepto, pedialyte and bendryle on hand.  The mixture of those 3, helps them fight it off.  After 3 long days of it, they start eating again..

Good luck.  Hope this is not your case.  Keep me posted.

Have you fed them anything out of the ordinary? Maybey just a sour stomach. I had 3 of them do that to me the other week, I had been mixing there food with hot water and leftovers from the house to fatten them up a little. It did not agree with them so I went to straight dry food and 2 days later they were eating normal.
