Title: Re: Getting my catahoula neutered?? Post by: catchrcall on March 09, 2010, 01:25:10 am short answer is that yes mine did hunt different after getting fixed. Less chasing tail, less growling in the box, less following another male around peeing on the same bush, and more focus on getting out and finding hogs. Everyone's experience might not be the same as mine, but I wouldn't hesitate to do it again.

Post by: a-khunter on March 09, 2010, 08:03:58 am have a bmc running catchdog that i neutered. before he had real bad dog aggression & i would spend most of my hunting time breaking up fights. getting him cut changed his attitude a lot, he is much more tolerant of the other dogs now. didnt change his performance any he still catches hard. only thing is that he is more focused on his job and is all about business.

Post by: T-Bob Parker on March 09, 2010, 08:13:54 am That seems to be the general synopsis, I agree but I'm always worried about what if a pup turns out to b the best dog I ever seen and I can't breed him. I guess starting over with his pups would be a crapshoot too though
Life is like a box of chocolates I guess Title: Re: Getting my catahoula neutered?? Post by: aladatrot on March 09, 2010, 09:28:56 am I would love to get my buck dog neutered, and may do it some day after I get him collected and stored. I hate having to worry about who can't ride with who because so and so is in heat, etc. Spaying and neutering helps all kinds of kennel issues. My lizzie dog is spayed and I never have to watch who I hunt her with. Plus, I still can breed her line through her hard hunting daughter.

The only thing I was worried about was him being less protective of the house and property, but that didn't change at all. I figure that even if he turned out to be a jam up dog (which he's not) that I wouldn't breed him anyways simply because of the dog aggression trait. Then again, I could be wrong and maybe aggression is not genetic.

Post by: Tusk Hog on March 09, 2010, 06:59:07 pm My experiences are good also, while the male dogs are standing around pissing, sniffing, and bowing up to each other the neutered ones are going hunting. I have several that are neutered. If they are not the type I want to continue breeding they get the band. In my opinion I believe they get better afterwards.

Title: Re: Getting my catahoula neutered?? Post by: make-em-squeel on March 09, 2010, 07:25:27 pm I have owned dogs that after neutered hunted fine it didnt change them at all. It did not help with agression either. I think in general if you are getting it done after 9 mo old there is not going to be a change at all, other than they eat less or get fat easier. Let me know if i am wrong.
