Bryant,

When you decide on the design that you want, you need to come over and we will stick some metal together.

Here's the one I built for Mandi's old Prairie, that was installed at a later date on a Foreman.  We ended up removing the chain, and just using some quick links with swivel snaps, and we put a rubber mat over the bottom expanded metal so that the dogs would not hang a toe nail. Also put a piece of wood covering the rear bar, so that a dog would not hang a leg while jumping off the back of the rack.

Thats a nice rack Chris. How many dogs can she put on it?

She usually only carried three dogs on it.

Here it is in use on one of the Foremans, the rack has since been taken off and now belongs to a friend in central Texas. With the rear rack, and front platform on the Foreman, we could clip 6 dogs, when needed.

I use to have this one on the front with a piece of plywood also attached to the front rack. Could fit 3 cur dogs pretty easy.

Better watch out for that expanded metel on the bottom.  I would suggest putting a piec of carpet on it. If you don't the dogs will rip a toe nail out .

so how's that shock work out?  you have to help with the ride for the dogs or to take up sag from the rack and dogs on the back??

It takes the pressure off the rack, I snapped the factory rack 3 times before installing the shock. It also helps with the ride when you have three or four dogs or a big hog in it.

this is before paint and plywood floor, but had this made by a local shop.
I'll get a more updated pic with dogs loaded.
It's pretty light and can load several dogs at a time.  Plus the cut out over seat allows for hauling a passenger on seat if needed.
I have also hauled bulldog and a passenger on the rack itself no problems.
Bigger dogs (bulldogs) in the side slots and couple curs in the middle.  ;D

I really like these platforms but what is the depth of them? and I am curious about the back of them, some are open and some have bars, if you had to build another what would you have?

Here is mine.  A little big... :o...but it works.  I need to build a shock like Mike has but other than that it's hauled quite a bit of weight. The 4 wheeler was equipped with a bed when I got it.  I don't think Polaris even makes the ATP (all terrian pickup) anymore.  I removed the old bed and had a buddy build this box for me.

Can't leave out my wifes pup....Copper.  ;D

Here was the first box that I built on the original "bed" that came on the 4 wheeler.

Haven't had many problems going through trees or the brush.  I got use to making wider turns in tight quarters.   It's only two inches wider than the back tires on each side.

I wouldn't recommend making it as big as I did.  With a heavy load it sags pretty good in the back.

Chris, when I finally get a wheeler I will take ou up on the help....I like the way the one maverick posted but I would want it reversed....as in follow the contor of the seat but load from the rear. Does that make sence? that way I could pad it and the kids could ride behind me and kinda be supported/surrounded by the rack BUT if I did it that way then the ole lady may not fit  :o :o

I agree if you put a rack on the back with the wall toward the front, it would be hard to have another Adult ride back there

I dont have the time to take pics but i just bought a koplin rear folding rack that holds 3 dogs but fits off the back so you can have guests still ride on the back, for me its on top of a big duckhunter bag i keep stuff in.

On the front i bolted two holders made for extra gas cans or small coolers that acts as a game rack, i put down some rubber and a chain and it works for a bulldog when needed as well. Dogs love the water out of the cooler i love the beer.

I was building one myself and I have the rack built but have not yet decided on how to attache it to the rack. Any ideas are very welcomed.

If the factory rack is steel, 4 U-bolts will hold it well.
If it's like Polaris(plastic) you'll need a large strap/plate below the plastic to run bolts through.
That way you have steel on top and bottom, with the plastic rack sandwiched between them.

I have already considered padding the seat side of the rack for back/side cushion for riders as the rack can bump and bang you around if terrain gets rough.
I like the rear load for couple reasons:
1 - keeps the dogs off my seat and from tearing it up with their claws
2 - the dogs want to be as close to the front as possible, so it makes a nice barrier to keep them from trying to get in my lap  :P
As far as passengers go, an adult can ride on the back of the rack and it's not too heavy or off balance for the four wheeler.
I will let my buddy drive sometimes and i'll ride with the bulldog on the back rack, actually not a bad ride.  And my younger sons likes riding on the rack lol, guess it's that 'riding in the back of the truck' concept.

Maverick, you have any more pics of that rack? I think that is how I want mine,is the space behind the seat have a "wall" on ot also? I am leanig twoard one like Chris posted but w/ a cut out for the saet and comming around to follow the contuor of the rack.

KevinO,polaris still makes that bike like you have w/ the built in bed and a second seat.

Yes i'll get more pics tonight  and show you all angles.  Also show how easy mine is to attach/detach from the existing rear rack.

Maver!ck

PS - the guy that built this for me actually does Steel buildings on a large scale, but said that if i had people that wanted these racks, it would be something for him to do between jobs or if he had a guy or 2 with some down time and could make them.  And it gives him something to do with scrap.  Would just have to see how much he'd charge.

All my hunting buddies have one like this. They work really good. Mine is slid back where it is not on the seat. It holds four big dogs with no problem. It has angle iron clips on the front that hook in the rack and two pins in the back that go through the box and the rack. I can take it off in less than 30 seconds.(http://i664.photobucket.com/albums/vv10/ETHHUNTERS/2010hunts015.jpg)(http://i664.photobucket.com/albums/vv10/ETHHUNTERS/2010hunts016.jpg)(http://i664.photobucket.com/albums/vv10/ETHHUNTERS/2010hunts017.jpg)(http://i664.photobucket.com/albums/vv10/ETHHUNTERS/2010hunts018.jpg)
