Title: Sound Puppy
Post by: FL hogdogger on March 18, 2010, 10:19:09 am
Hey guys,
I need a little advice on picking a new puppy out of a litter. I got a puppy last weekend and it was a catxab she is a cute lil S*** but her back legs just don't seem right. They stick out to the side when she walks, her stance her back legs are bowed out and when she runs she hops??? I didn't realize this when I got her because my ol lady wouldn't put her down.... she fell in love she said! But I have contacted the breeder and she said that I could exchange the puppy for a new one! What a great breeder to stand behind her dogs! but now that I get the breeders pick what should I be looking for? I have never bought a dog from a breeder always had them givin to me and now that I'm getting in to hunting I want a SOLID dog. Do any of you out there have any advice on picking a good hunting dog out of a litter of pups? Thanks in advance!

Take home the whole litter, train them all until 2 yrs of age, cull the ones you don't like.  Then you have the dogs you want.  Joking.

Seriously though, I don't think there's anything I could tell you about picking out a dog. My two best dogs right now were both puppys I gave no consideration to when they were young.  I thought they were lazy and retarded. Turns out, they're the best out of the bunch...

It's like Forest Gump and a box of chocolates....
