EAST TEXAS HOG DOGGERS FORUM

We are looking for a Walker Hound, Blue Tick Hound, or  Red Tick Hound.  We have a 13 year old that is wanting to raise and train his own Coon Dog.  He has been working all week to save money for his 1st hunting Pup!  If anyone has one or knows of anyone, please let us know.  I have searched the internet top and bottom...now its time to hit ETHD backyards!!

Tony I have 8 week old pups out of my best English Gyp She is out of Michicigan swamp rooster and a hell of a hog dog the dad is double barrel rooster the man paid $6700 for him when he was a young dog he is phenominal! I will give the boy a puppy if you are willing to make the drive! Theres nothing more id reather do than get a kid in a dog hunting sport!

I do not sell dogs I keep 5 of these for my self I know what they will do they have the nose, speed, and grit! They are papered! ;)

Tie that is a good thing you offered there I don't beleave the boy could go wrong!! There some good people out there in this world who care about helping others!!

I am from south Ms ITs 5.5 hrs from my house to beamount tx. Hey any thing to help a kid out If you wont to come get the dog i can met you off the I-10 it will cut you off another 40 min or so just let me know when. Most any evenin after 6 or on weekends. Ill call you in a bit! ;)

Hey Im not an it for the money im in it for the sport. I was once a kid who was given a dog and desired the same thing as this one does the way i look at it im returnin the favor. :) It looks like a day care some times when I go hunting with all the kids but hey its keeping them out of trouble and off the streets! ;)

Awesome way to pay it forward Tie!!

Hi, My name is Alex, Im 13 yrs old and excited about getting into coon hunting.  I just wanted to say thanks to everyone for helping me find a pup.  Especially to Tie, the nice man from Mississippi, that will be making me the new owner of an English pup (red Tick Hound). Im so excited and looking forward to my new pup. 

If anyone has any pointers for training my new pup I'd be happy to hear them.  This will be an exciting new adventure for me!

Alex you are very very welcome. I would first let the pup get a little more age then get a live trap and catch a coon, let the pup start bayin it good in the cage. Then I would turn the coon out (very carefully) let the pup see it  as he took to it start trailin it and treeing it start doing it at futher distances eventually you will be able to let the coon out hours without leting the dog see it and him take it and tree it. Also shot as many coons out of the tree but dont shoot em out right when he trees let him tree a while then shoot em out. He will make you a great dog! ;D

LilWill, I guess as luck may be on our side...Hal Hubbard is our cousin.  Thanks for all the information though cause I thought he was a hog hunter and not coons.  We greatly appreciate all the help sent our way.  We have a very excited little coon hunter in the making.  He earned $100.00 this week on spring break so, now that Tie is giving him a pup...we had to go get the live trap!!  We already had the kennel and dog house but tomorrow he wants to get his leash, dog collor and a few other provisions.  Not only will he have a great dog but, a spoiled one too!! 

Again, Many Thanks to everyone that has sent help our way.  I hope that someday, we can also pay it forward!!  Seeing the exspression on his face when we told him about the pup was priceless...not to mention his face when he saw the pictures of the pups and actually talking to Mr. Tie.  Needless to say he was tongue tied and almost speechles.  lol

He is now waiting for the rain to pass to bait the new trap!!  lol

Alex, the best dog I ever had was given to me. The best advice I can give you on your new pup is to use him for what he was bread for as often as possible. HUNTING!
Give it all the opertunity you can to hunt but dont rush it.
Good luck and keep us posted on the pups progress so we can all enjoy your success as one of East Texas's newest and finest coon hunters!!!

When that pup is old enough to introduce to coons I have a roll cage that I wouldn't mind letting you borrow. Check out John Wick's books on training coon dogs. You can find a hoop of supplies here:

Hey alex i am 14 years old and have a bunch of plotts.I hope that dog makes u a good un wat i done to help my plott pups to train with coon (before we put um on bear) was drag a coon hide around but dont let the puppy loose intrest with it when the puppy looks lik it is loosing intrest in the hide put it up and play with it again the next day and when it gets some age i would full with it in a coon trap (dont let it get eat up though) and good luck to ya  ;D

Jdt, I agree 100% about him working and earning his hunting stuff....the great thing is, it was All his doin.  He ask what he could do to earn money.  And trust me, I feel like I havent paid him enough cause everything he did, he gave it his all.  We got up at 6 am Sat morning to get my husband off to work and we went into his room and ask him if he was awake...he rubbed his eyes and said yea, what do we need to do?  We just laughed and handed him a $ 100 bill...he rubbed his eyes more and said..." Whoa!", we laughed and said is that enough?  He said yea...It's "almost" more than enough!!  We were speechless on that one. lol  Its funny when you take them shopping with their own money...they get a little more careful!!  

Thanks Sean, we will probly need to look at your roll cage so alex and Justin can make one.  Im sure any ideas will help Justin out...he's not much of a carpenter. lol

Hey this is Alex thanks for the information! I caint wait till i get my red tick from a nice man from ole miss. I set my traps last night but we built a holdin cage for when we catch some coons were gona use them to train my pup.  Im new at this so if u have any tips id be happy to hear them.  Im going to get my collar and leash today. I gotta save up for a good L.E.D light.  im gona get a roll cage so i can get my pup used to coons and let him yapp at it then take it out and tie it in a tree and let him find it !!!

kudos to you tie and to alex's parents for first of all letting their son live out a dream and second to teaching him hardwork pays off and they will never be able to count all the blessings a dog can bring to a kid and all of the life lessons he will learn from it....i to was in the same boat as alex at about the same age and got the same type of gift he did and now 8 yrs later still doing what i love...happy hunting alex

We have had a rough week and have'nt been able to post any up dates because my husband  Justin has been in the hospital all week.  Now that things are back to nornmal I wanted to give a little update on Alex and his pup. 

Justin and I are not Alex's parents but, we are so very close to him.  We feel as if he was ours and try our best to the best influence that we can be.  Long story short without revealing to much info, Alexs mom is a single mom, trying to work and raise 3 children. She also plays a large roll in his life but,  Alexs hunting life gets put on the back burner cause of lack of time, money and hunting resources.  Alex dad is a good man that is just going down a rough road and getting to think about life a little, in jail.  Please dont think that he has bad parents, they love him very much but where attention, hunting and his outdoors life lacks with them, we pick up!  He has a passion for hunting that we just couldnt let die.  When he is with us, we let him experience any and everything possible when it comes to the woods and the sport of dog hunting.  Guesse you could say we share custody!! lol cause we have him about every other weekend, holidays and hoping for all summer long!!

I got the phone call today from Tie, that the pup is on its way from Mississippi tonight and I will have to meet them in the morning to pick it up.  Alex is with his mom right now and has no idea that i will be picking him up in the morning, not to go to school but to head out to Beaumont to get his pup!  its going to be hard when I talk to him this evening to make plans for the weekend, not to say anything about his surprise trip in the morning....he thinks we have another week wait!  lol

Last weekend Alex set his coon trap in the back pasture by the pond and for 2 night, it didnt catch anything but, on Tues. I came home from the hospital to just feed the horses and dogs...thought I would just check his trap to see if his bait mixture worked and it did...he caught his 1st OPOSSUM!!!!  Me being a girl, was not too sure what in the heck to do, I just opened the door on the trap and grabbed the fence post...cause if it was coming to me, i was running!!   Thank God that huge thing decided he wanted the woods more than me!!  I sent Alex a text and told him that he caught a possum and that boy had the nerve to ask me if We were gonna keep it!! With a big NO, He fially called me back when he got out of school just a laughin!! All i could say was I couldnt wait til he had to get his 1st coon out of that trap...cause you get a good chance to be up close and personal withem !! Lord knows that possum was hissin at me like mad!!

I will post pictures of Alex and his pup through out the weekend cause I'm sure he will be "training" him all weekend. Wish us luck!! Thanks again for all of you who have helped or offered to help this young fellas dream come true.  Yall have givien this boy meaning and values that he will take with him always.  Thanks Yall!!

very very good story.  ya'll are great people for what ya'll are doing for Alex.  There is no better reward then seeing that big smile on a youngsters face.  i hope it all goes well. i'm no coon hunter so i can't offer any advice, but i wish Alex and his "joint custody" parents the best of luck.

Tonya and Justin you are truly good people. Those have to be the cutest pictures ive seen in a long time that last picture really shows how they have bonded! you can really tell how happy Alex is about his new pup. And to Tie you are a good man  :angel:

This has been a good thread to read. I can see Hank being World Champion material one day. Wish ya'll lived closer cause I got a bunch of old coonhunting stuff the young feller could have. Keep us posted on Alex and Hanks progress.

hey alex i have 8 plott dogs and i took my 10 month old plott dog out last night and his name is hank to. He treed his first coon by his selve last night. All i done to him was what i told u. How i found all that stuff out. Was listen to all the good hounds men and put what they said together. What my daddy said is really true u got to put the work in for it to pay off. Hopefully hank will make me a heck of a bear dog good luck keep me posted if u need any thang just send me a pm i'll be happy to here from ye.I hope that dog makes you a great one good luck.

I hope that dog makes you a great one good luck. Training a pup is hard trust me but it is all worth it to see they have succeded and your the one that helped it and you was there to watch it do good and show the puppy its mistakes. I love it   ;D
