Title: Clay Bayed his last Hog (RIP Clay) Post by: raider54 on March 21, 2010, 06:34:56 pm Folks I write to you with a broken heart today, Clay is gone. :'( My wife and I went to the movies today and after the movie I checked my phone which I left in the truck and saw I had a 911 msg from one of my hunting buddies and several missed calls from others, I knew something was wrong. I called Phillip who keeps Clay in his kennel and he said to me "Paul I dont know how to tell you this but Clay is dead". My heart just sank, as if it were a close friend or family member. Phillip said Clay came out to eat last night at feeding about 9:30 as we were going to leave early this morning to hunt with Rowdy but we got 4 or 5 inches of snow early this morning so we ended up not going. Phillip said he went out to feed about noon and Clay was laying unconcious on top of his food bowl. He grabbed him up and thru him in the truck and started calling friends and Vets. He said Clay was still breathing when he met with the Vet but by the time they got him inside and on the table his heart wasnt beating. He was dead.
Clay was the single biggest reason I enjoy hog doggin as much as I do. I have hunted with numerous guys that have dogged hogs much longer than myself that have told me Clay was without a doubt the Best Hog Dog they had ever hunted with. He is certainly the best I have ever hunted with. He was the dog that if we were having a hard time finding a hog we would go back home and get him, go back and get it done. Clay was only 6 years old and had been owned by two others before me. In counting hogs that Clay had been a part of, we figure that # is about 1000. Nearly 500 just since I have owned him. This is a tribute to his heart and drive to finish a hog track. I will miss Clay and I will never forget him. I will dig a hole with a shovel tomorrow and will lay him to rest somewhere in the woods where I will be able to go and visit him, I might just lay a hog head in with him. I only pray that Scott's Salty dog is full of Clay puppies so that Clay's Legacy may live on. RIP Clay Thanks for the Joy you brought to many of us. This picture was taken out at Michael Woodall's (TXHoghunter) a couple of weeks ago Title: Re: Clay Bayed his last Hog (RIP Clay) Post by: Texas_Cur on March 21, 2010, 06:38:06 pm I will miss hearing the stories about Clay.

Title: Re: Clay Bayed his last Hog (RIP Clay) Post by: hoghunterdfw on March 21, 2010, 10:04:30 pm man I know how much you loved that dog. its a shame to hear he is gone. it sounds like you may have at least gotten some pups out of the old man before he passed so hopefully his blood will live on and help find some more hogs for you in the future.

Title: Re: Clay Bayed his last Hog (RIP Clay) Post by: t.wilbanks on March 22, 2010, 10:10:36 am Paul, man i hate to hear that about ol Clay. I knew from the couple times i talked to you and Phillip that he ment alot to yall. Losing a dog like that will make a grown man cry like alittle girl. Was the vet able to tell what happened to him?
Title: Re: Clay Bayed his last Hog (RIP Clay) Post by: NechesBobcat on March 22, 2010, 11:09:51 am Sorry to hear about clay. I've got 2 that could never be replaced. They're both about 5 years old now. I'll probly want to give up hunting all together when they're gone. I think a dog is one of the best companions a man can have. I don't think it's fair that their lives are so short.
