hello there my fellow okie...

thats a good one man , they will all be different.  i would say it gona be past a year old,   and even after that they are going to have a hard time out doing the old dogs. so un less you hunt them by there self it gona be hard to find out.

I have had several around 6-7 months strike their own hogs... But that was on hunts with only pups no grown dogs.. So I would say somewhere around there

all depends on the dog and his maturity level is

I'll agree with the others, that each dog is different but what hasn't been mentioned is the factor of the amount of ground time a dog has been given.  A three or four year old dog that hits the woods once a month may still not have it figured out, where a year old dog that runs several times a week might be going like crazy.  Dogs learn by repetition.

What I pay a lot more attention to in very young pups is not whether their striking hogs, but how they hunt.  A dog that shows independance and is not afraid to leave out and look just tells me it's a matter of time before things start to click.

I couldn't agree more Bryant. They have to have the hunt in them, then you can teach them what you want them to hunt
