Title: Few spearfishing pics7.30.08 Post by: Noah on July 30, 2008, 07:36:52 pm Shot in 140' of water, W of Tampa(Gulf of Mexico) freediving(breath hold spearfishing). Deepest dive to shoot a fish was 110', on which I shot the nice Red snapper. Fun stuff :D
Red Snapper shot @ 110', you can't see them but there's 5 dusky sharks within 15' of me trying to get my fish..... which is why I was holding it out of the water ;D (http://img253.imageshack.us/img253/3167/24644502hr9.jpg) (http://img253.imageshack.us/my.php?image=24644502hr9.jpg) Amber Jack(my buddy's first!), Mangrove Snapper, and RS (http://img521.imageshack.us/img521/3364/26607458os0.jpg) (http://img521.imageshack.us/my.php?image=26607458os0.jpg) Annoying Jewfish that kept eating out Grouper..... that'll teach him ;D (http://img205.imageshack.us/img205/7993/32887402xt3.jpg) (http://img205.imageshack.us/my.php?image=32887402xt3.jpg) My highlight of the day, my first speared Permit :D (http://img128.imageshack.us/img128/1359/58947857tx7.jpg) (http://img128.imageshack.us/my.php?image=58947857tx7.jpg) Title: Re: Few spearfishing pics7.30.08 Post by: Noah on July 30, 2008, 07:50:31 pm Few more underwater shots a friend took diving the same area a couple days earlier.

good fish,, and thats a good jewfish,, how do yall hold them aj's, when we catch them on a rod they fight like crazy? Title: Re: Few spearfishing pics7.30.08 Post by: Noah on July 30, 2008, 08:40:23 pm I've got a reel on my speargun that holds 180' of 500# braid, but it sometimes gets jammed :o At that point all you can do is hope that you "stoned"(shot to the center skull paralyzing the fish) the fish. I try never to shoot an AJ anywhere else, but have just about lost my gun several times from misplaced shots.
Title: Re: Few spearfishing pics7.30.08 Post by: sbrooks on July 30, 2008, 08:45:17 pm spearfishing has always interested me just not sure about diving out in the deep deep water. Awesome fish
Title: Re: Few spearfishing pics7.30.08 Post by: Noah on July 30, 2008, 09:03:26 pm Yeah, most people don't realize that sharks(most sharks ;)) don't want you, they just want your fish. The ones that DO want you, usually give you plenty of time to defend yourself. But, to tell the truth, it usually takes me about 10 minutes in the water(every time) for the fear to go away....
Speaking of fear, one of the guys I dive with had a close call with a Mako... This is what happens when an aggressive shark gets too close.... they turn into shark steaks ;) (http://img529.imageshack.us/img529/11/17496250gc0.jpg) (http://img529.imageshack.us/my.php?image=17496250gc0.jpg) Title: Re: Few spearfishing pics7.30.08 Post by: GitDatHawg on July 31, 2008, 11:07:14 pm dang that looks awesome!! great pics and some nice fish ;D it would be crazy to be that close to a giant whale shark :o
