Title: Range on Shocking System
Post by: HIGHWATER KENNELS on April 22, 2010, 11:27:27 pm
I bought a used Classic 70 system about 2 months ago.  The system came with 3 collars and works fine.  Question is, the other day I had brought a young dog and a deer jumped up in front of him while he was running down the wood road, well I waited till he could see him good and pushed the button, he wasnt no more than 250 yards away and he did not even feel it.  Is it possible that either the battery in the receiver or the collar is getting weak to not pick up the signal.  Cause each collar will stay on for 5 days without goin dead.  I bought this system because I always heard the Classic 70 had good range on it......

it might be that the posts on the collar were not contacting his skin, so the collar was working but he just didn't get hit.

X2... those collars need to be on pretty tight to make contact. I always check mine by cranking it all the way up and listen to the "shock" before I put it on the dog... just to be sure it's working. They will reach out and touch one, 250 yards is no problem.

Fellers I know they put off fire cuz I done touched the points myself.  I just might not have them on tight enough, or maybe i need to buy some more contact points,,  Do they go badd after time?  or it might not have long enough points on the collars.

if he's a longer haired dog that sure could be.  I put on a shock collar one time, and didn't get it positioned quite right.  I was trying to get it as close to the cut collar as possible so it didn't take up so much room on his neck.  the edge of the cut collar slid under the edge of the box on the shock collar, so when I tried to correct him he never got hit.

Yes Sir, I know what u mean, some of the dogs have shorter necks than others so I sometimes have problems like that myself.  its funny,  my grandpa aint never had all this hi tech stuff and I believe he'd laugh at me if he was still around.... I still dont believe I will ever train a dog as good as he could.
