Title: Comfortis
Post by: grunterhunter8 on April 26, 2010, 07:39:51 pm
Didn't want to hijack the other thread.  Those that have used or are using comfortis- Have any of you seen any of the potential side effects (vomiting, decreased appetite, salivation). I read that if used concurrently with Ivomec the dogs could have adverse reactions. Anyone experience this? I'm wanting to go the comfortis route, but I use Ivomec. Any input is appreciated.

no problems here. Comfortis on all dogs, and we ivomec the cur dogs monthly.  We have been using comfortis for about 9 months and we are just now about to give our third dose. We pretty much wait until we see a couple fleas, then retreat, rather than give the pill monthly. We never dose ivomec and comfortis in the same week

Does Comfortis work for ticks? Does Ivomec help with ticks?

make sure you give pill after you feed them.

I can't remember if comfortis is supposed to treat for ticks or not, but I used it twice last summer and I don't remember having to pull any ticks at all.  probably coincidence.  I will say that it worked on the superfleas I had around here last summer when nothing else would.  I bought some flea powder from a feed store that was supposed to be really good.  Left my catch dog looking like a powdered sugar doughnut and the fleas just laughed at it, but comfortis got 'em.

Comfortis does not kill ticks. Also, some dogs do vomit on comfortis, and the company will reimburse you for vomited up pills. My show dog mentor has a dog who vomits up his comfortis - he is just sensitive to it.

Cheers
