I have seen cur dogs let go about the time you get there. Never seen a bulldog let go but have saw them get knocked off or drug off with the hog going through a big briar patch.

I use a bulldog because when I turn her loose I am confident I can go in and leg the hog no matter the size. Maybe its a mental thing but I feel better knowing shes locked down and not letting go till I get her off.
