what is the latest you have seen a dog turn on. one that has been hunted since a pup. any of you seen a dog that everyone has given up on.

i have seen a dog come on when it was right at 2 and didn't do anything before i mean nothin at all i would of culled him but he did turn it on for that guy i have a dog now goin on 1 and a half and she bays but is gettin better every time but took her a yr to even bark so those are the 2 oldest i seen that  have been introduced as pups

The best dog I ever raised was a late bloomer even though the blood line he was out of usually starts much earlier.
The only reason I didnt give up on him was because of his bloodline. It took him 13-14 months to even look at a hog but once he did he made up for lost time practically over night!
Its always a tough call on a good bred dog that aint started working.

My main dog, that is going on 9 now, didn't strike a hog until she was 2yrs old. The guys I was hunting with had some good dogs and she would just hang out, wait for them to bay and then go. If they bumped off or the hog broke she would stay with them... just wouldn't go that first time. One day we were hunting and the dogs all cut right and headed out. She went with them and they all bayed up. She never missed a lick after that. It was one extreme to another... no inbetween.

i guess i got a little more hope know, i got a male dog thats a little over a year and a half and he is gritty when one is stopped and helps catch. when one is jumped he hunts for it for a little bit but doesnt go far. he really doesnt go look for one yet

 Ive had bear hounds that didnt turn on til they were 4yrs old, But that is a long time to wait for a dog to turn the corner.
