Title: 30th birthday hunt... sort of Post by: slick on May 02, 2010, 07:15:47 am well it was all arranged. i had to be at the local roadhouse at 0600hrs to meet a couple of mates so we could head off to catch some hogs to celebrate my 30th. i arrived at the roahouse with 15 minutes to spare and used this time to fuel up. at 6 my mate rang me to say that they would not be coming as they were both still crook from a big night before. i got back in my vehicle and let fly with some nasty language that would make a truckie blush and headed for home. on the way home i decided to head out anyway and so i continued past home and went to another spot of mine.
armed only with bob my 7 month old catahoula pup i knew that i wasnt going to get anything but i thought it would be good to stretch our legs. after not too long at all bob started indicating and i knew we were close. sure enough to young boars popped up in front of us and bob gave a good chase. they blew him off in the thick stuff and disappeared into the neighbours place. i am allowed to hunt next door but i knew bob wasnt up to speed to pursue them any further so i left them to fight another day. i was a bit bummed to watch two good hogs get away, but bob showed me alot more of what he has to offer and is really starting show an interest in working from the vehicle. we both got to blow off some steam also which we both needed after the morning we had had so far. this is a picture of bob working or trying anyway to work from the back of my ute. (http://i783.photobucket.com/albums/yy113/slickhound/hog%20n%20dogs/pb1.jpg) Title: Re: 30th birthday hunt... sort of Post by: slick on May 02, 2010, 07:29:12 am later that day i organised to have another go at going out that next moring and it was agreed that i would meet the same mate at his place for a 0200hrs departure. we arrived at the spot and we were going through the second gate at a set of cattle yards when jet the lead dog bailed off and started working like mad. about 30 seconds later jet had him however this young and fit boar managed to bounce him a couple of times before i was able to get hold of him ( i like it when they keep you on your toes)

Title: Re: 30th birthday hunt... sort of Post by: slick on May 02, 2010, 07:43:24 am we moved on from the cattle cattle yards up into the sandy country that the pigs seem to love this time of year. after close to an hour of looking the dogs bailed out again and lit out to our left they ended up about 600 metres in with another boar but not as big as the first.

(http://i783.photobucket.com/albums/yy113/slickhound/hog%20n%20dogs/pb5.jpg) (http://i783.photobucket.com/albums/yy113/slickhound/hog%20n%20dogs/pb7.jpg) we had to get the farmer to come and get us out and i was glad he had a smile on his face when he seen the predicament we had gotten ourselves into, especially since we had disturbed him on a sunday morning. he later said he was going to drive down here himself later in the day and was glad it was us and not him, he said with a grin. so they were not exactly birthday boars but they were close enough for me and they certainly made up for getting bogged. cheers jarrad Title: Re: 30th birthday hunt... sort of Post by: de_moon on May 02, 2010, 12:25:40 pm Not a bad birthday weekend!! I hate it when my buddies bale on me from being crook from the night before!! Doesn't happen as often as it used to. Sounds like you are gettin it done down under.

my cat pup is going good but he is a bit reluctant to leave me at night and never ventures to far out. when it starts to get light he is really bold. some more pigs and a bit more age should see him get over this fear. |
