EAST TEXAS HOG DOGGERS FORUM

I hunted my Snappa dog last night and she was fine.  Today she's covered head to toe with oozy, hives and seems real body sore.  Don't see any obvious snake bites or anything.... Not sure what she got into..  Gave her some benadryl and antibiotics and brought her inside.  If she doesn't look better by the morning I'll take her to the vet.  Any ideas what this might be?

I had that happen to one of mine a while back. At first I thought she got swarmed by bees... but it also happened right before she came into heat. It finally cleared up.

Just talked to one of my coon hunting friends and his blue ticks just did the same thing a wk ago.  Said they were out all night and had the "swarm of yellow jacket" look, kinda looks like heat rash all over the body, but open and weepy.  He also said now that it's starting to heal, it kinda looks mangy, with the hair coming off in patches...  He used benadry too.   

You don't think it could be mild heat stroke do you?

Can dogs get poison ivy?

man that sounds bad,, idk what that could be,, i have never heard of a dog gettin poison ivy,

OK, figured it out... Pulled her out this morning and found micro-ticks all over, so small I thought they were fleas >:(  Poor dog just got eaten alive by ticks that I couldn't see on her black skin :-[  Oh well, gave her a good tick bath, continuing with the benadryl for the allergic reaction, and I'm gonna keep her out of the heat till it clears up some.

I've seen my bird dogs come out of the woods before with "tick paralysis", but it was always big ticks.  Nasty baby ticks... it's almost as if we get into "nests" of these sometimes.  I wonder if I dipped my dogs on a regular basis if it would prevent this from happening in the future...

any type of tall grass or switch cane,, ticks will thrive in that stuff

about dippin your dogs, yes that will mostly prevent the dogs from getting eat up so bad
