Title: Jessie James Cave
Post by: craig on May 13, 2010, 01:42:43 pm
a few weeks ago i had the pleasure of hunting on a really nice ranch here in oklahoma.  i had always heard there was a cave on the place well we found it and got some really cool pitures.   the date is 1874 with J. James name on the wall.    the walls are covered with old dates and names.  the cave is about 10' tall by 30' wide and about 60' deep..

Great pictures Craig!

If only those cave walls could talk! I have always been fascinated with caves and did a lot of caving when I was a kid in North Alabama and Tennessee.

Thanks for sharing.

Craig you didn't see any mountain lion sign there did ya. I am pretty sure I have been there and think I recognise that outlaw in the back ground, only a few of them in this country have them Taco hats and a stache like he does  :o If that's the same place weird things have happen out there at night :-X

Man, that is a awesome picture.  I was in a huntin club along the Red River a few yrs back and out there on the club was a small cemetary with about 7 or 8 headstones in it,  well one of the head stones read Cousin of Jesse James..

Thats pretty neat, I was just watching a show on the history channel today Cowboys and Outlaws and it was on Jeese James.
They were in caves up in Kansas with that same sort of writing and such

Craig, it was mostly just his initials, but on the inside of the caves the walls would be slap covered with writing.

thats the same way this caves walls were , there were all kinds of names and dates.  it took us about 30 min to find J James name.

That is incredibly cool. Do you remember the earliest dated signature?

I am a history nut, and love all things old. That said, my favorite era to learn about was the old west post civil war but before 1900. I just love the old outlaws - Billy the Kid, Jesse James, Daltons, etc. I also love to hear about the lady outlaws and standouts - The Great Western, Lottie Deno, Cattle Kate, and Belle Starr. I have been to tombstone and Lincoln, NM. That old stuff just intrigues me.

Craig, I can send you those "old" photos as actual photographs for framing if you want to email me the original photo files. May look cool in an antique frame.

Cheers
