Title: Newest addition!
Post by: FL hogdogger on May 28, 2010, 10:41:33 am
I’d like to introduce the newest addition to the family and the start of my pack! Her name is “Bailey” and she is a Cat x AB, I got her from Wilsons Kennels; she is 4 months old, and full of piss and vinegar! We just went on her first hog hunt/ airboat ride and she did very well! She didn’t like the squealing all that much but once it was dead she sniffed and licked! I was happy enough with that. She also did well on her first airboat ride wanting to be right up in the front of it and I was way surprised by that, most dogs are scared their first run but she did well! The dog other dog in the pic is “Blue” my buddies Blue nosed pit, it was his first hunt with no other dogs! I was really impressed with him he has come a long way from the tail tucker he used to be! All and all it was a great night 110 lb sow and a lot of firsts!

WOW! :o I didn't realize there was so many guys from FL on here lol! this is Great! I'm always looking for hunting partners around here i'm new to the sport so new people are always great! I have never hunted oak hills. I have hunted off of lake jessup with a buddy and his dogs and that's about it. I'm just starting my pack and I hope to get it off on the right foot.

I would be glad to take a weekend and run some dogs with you in Oak Hills if you would let me tag along! that and Polk County I hunted off of Thomas Landing on the Kissimee chain of lakes but with no luck ever but of course we were on an airboat so...  :-\

I am from PA but we almost moved down to Ocala area.  Does anyone hog hunt the Ocala National Forest? Seems like alot of public land to hunt.  I was told Yankees like me have alot of trouble getting permission.

The Bears outnumber hogs there about 10 to 1.

LandShark Wilsons Kennels are up in Youngs town right by panama city. I dont know if they have a male catahoula but I know that Pan Head Kennels is right up the street and from what I understand they are bread to hunt! I have never seen them hunt just what im told.
Is there lots of hogs up there I travel through a lot and always wonder if there is...

Yes we got plenty of hogs. If you cross the river and get out into the National Forest, no hogs. Like the other guy said lots of bears though. We got plenty of those worthless things to. I see you on Southern Airboat also. Have you ever hunted lake Cypress.

FLhogdogger and Landshark... Panhead has some great catahoula's. Their website seems to be down right now but they do have a heck of a Facebook page. Lee's Catahoula's are great too (http://www.leecatahoulas.com/) but I don't know if he is studding any of his cat's right now. He is in southern Mississippi.

Hope this helps! My male cat is only 3.5 months... so.... lol, not much help there ;D

Had a buddy of mine from TN take an ole' boy bear hunting some time back,....they bayed a pretty good bear that was giving the dogs a fit, he told the boy to shoot the bear, looked around when he didn't shoot and here's the boy with a rope out building a loop, so my buddy shoots the bear dead. The boy then gets all mad as a hornet and tells my buddy that he most likely ruined what may be his only opportunity to rope a bear. Don't really know what he was gonna do with it after he roped it, but he was going to give it a try.
