EAST TEXAS HOG DOGGERS FORUM

Just out of plain ole' curiosity I'm wondering how many and what breed of dogs all you folks have....by that I mean 'hog dogs'. I have 2....a fiest/cur cross and a Plott/Catahoula cross.

I have 3 dogs all together. 1 three year old catahoula male, 1 red mt. cur gyp, and 1 four month old airdale cur cross puppy. Thats all i need cause I hunt with my buddies on the weekend and they have got a couple of dogs also. Only thing im missing is a lil ol catchdog.

(1) bmc, (1)bmc/dogo, and (1)dogo...anymore and my wife might literally killy me...i mean insurance and all :'(

I have 1 cat, 1 bluetick, two bm, and a black pit, hoping to add one more soon, i had 9 dogs but traded to get down to 5,  i would have more but my girl would leave me, she has 3 horses though so i told her i can have atleast 10 dogs for each one of her horses lol

For my hog dogs, I have, Two mix breed dogs, four dogo/redbone cross 1 year olds, one redtick/ blackmouth cross, one red lacy, and three dogos. And my sons lab loves to hog hunt also! That makes twelve, son of a gun, anybody want to buy some dogs? :o

I only have three right now because of the heat and not hunting much. I have 1 Registered Male Blue Lacey, 1 Male Pit , and 1 Male Cane Corso I am going to try as a catchdog.

There's 10 at my place.  Seven American Bulldogs one Boxer and 2 Catahoulas. Two of the ABs belong to my wife, one of the ABs and the Boxer are my grandaughters, the rest are mine.

Minus the puppies, this is the fewest amount of dogs i've had since I started.

I must say that I'm a bit surprised at how few dogs a lot of you all have.....I really don't know why, but I kinda figured that most folks had quite a few dogs,...maybe 10 or more. It's an eye opener to find out that many of you have only 2 or 3 as I do. I'd have more I think if we had a good huntable population of hogs here in north Bama. I'm in sight of retirement from the Fire Dept. and if I had some hogs to hunt around home I think I'd like to train a couple of young dogs at a time when I do retire, but that's just not feasable if you can't get to some hogs to run in a few minutes of driving. You guys that can are really lucky in my book.....maybe someday we will have that here.

I too have been surprised by the answers.  seems like the majority of people I used to meet when I started hog doggin always had well over a dozen dogs on their yard.  And I just figured that was the norm for most people in the hobby.  I know that me and Grant live in the city with tiny backyards so we can only have 4-5 dogs without getting in trouble with the city, otherwise I'm sure I would own more, but then again you only need 2 curs and a catchdog to get it done.  IMHO its always more fun to hunt with an up and coming dog and get all excited and proud as it starts to figure it all out, then with the older finished dogs that you know are going to do good regardless. I know for one thing it is A LOT easier on life if you only have to care for less than 5 dogs.

I agree with you hoghunterdfw.....I've had more than 5 at one time and it gets rather expensive to feed and take care of that many, .....plus, it's really hard for me to leave a dog in the pen when I'm loading up to go hunting, I want to take 'em all and sometimes you just can't do that.

My brother has two dogs I run as well. A DOGO female and a ridgeback cur cross.

Back when I was in college and could hunt every night I had up to 30 or 40 dogs. So I could switch out packs each night.
