Title: Clifford and Rip
Post by: Mike on September 06, 2008, 06:24:23 pm
On the way back from our hunt this morning we stopped by to visit Cody and the new Ugly Dog Ranch store. While we were there, we got to see the Bloom Brothers' Rip dog. I took a picture with him and Clifford... they are about dead even in size.

Cody, it was good to see you again and the store looks great. If any of you ever get a chance to stop by, he has tons of dog equipment and other hog doggin' merchandise.

I think the only thing holding his chest together is scar tissue, having said that (in exageration) he his really smart how he catches a hog in that if he cannot get parallel to the hog the is directly in front and the only hits I have seen him take that were serious where in the front of his chest.  Not to answer for Mike, but just what I know about him and have seen.  Ol' Clifford has been around the block.....a couple times.

Yes sir, I almost lost him one night on a bad hog that killed Matt's dogo. It was touch and go for a few days. He has severely over heated on me a few times and I never wore a vest on him when it was hot. His whole chest is nothing but scar tissue... hard to see with his coloring. He's fixing to be six years old in a few months and has caught a bunch of hogs in his time.

We were talking about this today with Cody. If you ever see the Australian dogs in action, they all wear chest plates... not vests. The dogs stand so tall that the hog is always hooking upwards into their chests... this explains why Clifford only gets hit there.

His old vest is trashed... chest full of holes. I had a 3/4 length kevlar vest custom made for him earlier this year that is light enough to wear year round.

He's in all the Bloom Brother's "one out" dvd's "Doggin' Boars". He's kinda of "stuck" here in the U.S. right now.

Mike,

Good to see you and your bunch as well.   I love talking dogs with good people!  I WAS SUPER-IMPRESSED with Clifford....have seen pics of him before but they didn't do him justice.  I'd have a place for him in my kennel ANY DAY!
VERY nice dog.....I'd love to hunt behind him one day.

Glad ya'll stopped by the shop....

As far as RIP goes.....just studing him now as per agreement with Bloom Bros...no hunting allowed......VERY TEMPTING THOUGH!!!

i think that's awesome that a catch dog has made it to 6 years old, hard not to get attached to a dog you been with on that many wars.

Somebody correct me if I'm wrong, but I think Clifford is 1/2 Catahoula and 1/2 AB. He's like a Liger though. He's way bigger than either one of the parent breeds.

That is a good size dog. I was impressed with the store also. Worth the drive to pick up gear and talk a little hunting with Cody or who ever else you may run into there. :)

Sadly, I never have bred him.

He's more than proven himself over the years and I do have a breeding planned soon.
