I don't know the dosage but if the dog starts to pant hard and looks to be in distress you can crush (pulverize) an aspirin and mix it with a little hamburger and feed it to the dog. Usually the dog will do better within 30 minutes. I have treated several dogs with the aspirin when I gave the dog too much Ivomec and the dog had heartworms.I usually did this to the dogs that were getting close to the cull list just to do some experimenting.

back in 1983 a recipe was put in the Foster and Smith vet catalog  for curing heartworms and they almost lost their liscense over that. They thought it was ok to put this recipe out there because in Australia and other countries that was the normal treatment.

To use sheepwormer pill, active ingrediate is Levamisole. There are no major side effects and can be given with food but I think empty stomach could be better.

I'm not saying that you should do this but this is how I did it.

This is more a home remedy type recipe. My disclaimer. ???

Steps for treatment:

1. use 1 pill per day for each 40#s of body weight for 10 days

2. rest dog off of wormer for 10 days

3. repeat step 1, when worming is complete move to next step

4. Rest dog for 30 days so that dead worms can decay and be absord. This is so the dog won't get a heart attack.

I treated 3 dogs with this and cured them.

Another dog that a friend of mine had had heartworms, hookworms and was about to deliver and he took her to the vet and the vet said she wouldn't make it. The vet just gave him some iron with liver concentrate and told him to take her home and that he hoped she could live over the whelping of the pups. I gave her some liver to eat to get her strength up so she could eat and then I wormed her for hooks.

Then I instructed my friend to follow the recipe and the gyp made a full recovery.

either way if you use the ivomec method or the levamisole method make sure you rest you dog afterwards, especially if it is a good one... :)

I used to buy it at the feed store and tractor supply used to carry it. Look at all the sheep/goat wormers and see what the active ingredient is.

I checked the internet real quick and "Livestock pro.com" has it, or you can go to a local feed store and ask them to order a bottle for you.
