Title: Re: how to get ride of mange on a dog...please help Post by: hogaholicswife on July 21, 2010, 08:06:18 pm Sarcoptic Mange (contagious) - Paramite, you can the cattle/swine rub online at agri-med.com. Dilute 1tsp to 1 gallon of water. Pour it over the dog, rub it in and turn him loose; it has a 3 - 4 month residual and helps with ticks/fleas as well....best stuff guaranteed. You can dip 3 weeks later if needed but once is typically enough.
Red Mange (demodex) - Zimectrin Gold wormer, one click for every 40lbs once a day until it is gone...this is the most aggrevating mange to get rid of especially in a male because of the testosterone. Title: Re: how to get ride of mange on a dog...please help Post by: kbar on July 25, 2010, 08:42:21 pm i know alot of people on here use the zermectrin gold for worming and other stuff.....just be careful not to over dose....and maybe you should ask your vet what he thinks is a good dosage...ive seen several dog(working in a vet clinic for 7 years) that have liver failer do to horse wormers and over doseing. my brothers dog was even over dosed with it and it put him in what looked like a coma till we got fluids runnin through him to flush out some of the toxins in the liver...the are super potent.....if anything i would say to use only a pea size and i wouldnt use it on older dog that may have a liver problem....and i personaly would not use it everyday. Just me though...not trieing to be rude...it sounds like it has done wonders for other people. this is what the clinic prescribe for demadex- tactic (used on cattle) 8 oz to one gallen . sponge on whole body. or paramite (also used on cattle) use same mixture. this one treats demadex and sarcoptic. use them once a week for up to 6 weeks...you should be able to get these at a feed store. if the hair loss is located along the back and the tail head. it may not be mange but a flea allergy....all it takes for a dog that has a flea allergy is one flea bite....al you need to do is treat the area hes in for fleas and keep him on a flea preventative. Hope this helps!

All dogs react different to medicine so you run a chance any time you self medicate your animals. One click/twist of the orange band on Zimectrin is about as big as your pinky nail and/or a pea, not much comes out...sometimes you wonder if anything comes out ;) I would say if your vet is telling you 1cc per DAY for 60 days that is a pretty substantial amount and if a reaction is going to occur it is going to happen whether it is Ivomec or Zimectrin. Our vet gave me Mitaban to try for Red Mange on a dog I couldnt get cleared up (I swear by Paramite and Ivomec/Zimectrin) and let me tell you something...I will NEVER recommend that crap to anyone - the side effects of that stuff is intense to say the least! Another med that sometimes helps is Ketochlor Shampoo, which you can get online. It seems to help the hair come back as well. The immune system condition that allows for the development of "red mange" can be an inherited condition. This condition can reoccur. I had a couple pups, one of which was promising, that had the condition.

Put a pair of rubber gloves on, slather the dog down, leave'em in a stock trailer over night to let the stuff set up and them cut'em loose and by the time that stuff wears off the mange is gone. :) Its stinky but it works and it doesn't cost but about 13 dollars a bottle.
Oh and I've used it on stray dogs that were covered in mange and didn't have but about 3 hairs left and all of their hair grew back in a couple of weeks. Title: Re: how to get ride of mange on a dog...please help Post by: okhoghuntin on August 05, 2010, 03:53:17 pm We use Prolate, it's a concentrate dip. Farm stores/Atwoods/Feedstores carry it. It's normally used for mites on swine. Works amazing, though if they're scabbed it will burn. Follow the dilution on the bottle and one bottle will last ya all summer. We use it on bedding and kennels as well. If they're already thinning their hair that NuStock will regrow it and controls mites great as well!
