If so i usually wean my pups around 6 weeks old Then start puttin weight back on the female for about to 2 more weeks and then start hunting her Title: Re: Hunting after pups? If she is good enough to breed then she needs to have time to get her body back on track.Hormons arent back in line till she has quit making milk.
Title: Re: Hunting after pups? Post by: raider54 on July 28, 2010, 11:09:17 am Blake you have a couple of things to think of, it is rough up here where you and I hunt. I personally like to leave those pups on momma for 8 weeks but if you do you will really have to pour the suplemental replenishment to that Plott gyp. the reason is the pups are so big by then they really pull momma down. Once you get the pups wiened whether it is 6 or 8 weeks you need to work on her tits a bit! no joke! this is why I made the first comment it is rough up here and with her tits sagging it will tear her up. Get some Absorbine JR and rub it on her bags once a day, they should start drawing up real fast that way. As someone has already mentioned she is going to need 2 or 3 weeks just to get her hormones lined out again not to mention just get used to standing on her feet again! Remember she has been laying on her side the last two and a half months. Just a few things to think about! These are rules I have followed over the last 35 years raising hounds, this doesnt mean its the model for your question! Just a few suggestions. Good luck with her I cant wait to see those little Fred puppies ;D
