Title: Dog Food? Post by: brw7979 on August 13, 2010, 02:28:02 am Whats the dog food that ya'll feed? I feed mine Diamond hi-energy 24/20 at @ $20 a bag (give or take) depending on the manager at TSC. I have had no problems with it. My huntin partner uses Red Flanel, I'm not sure of the %age but his dogs do awesome on it, but its quite a bit higher.
So my question is what type of feed do ya'll give your dogs? Title: Re: Dog Food? Post by: blakebh on August 13, 2010, 05:18:23 am I have been feeding Diamond Hi energy and it has worked for me. I just dont feed alot of it or the dogs can get a little overweight and crap alot.

Title: Re: Dog Food? Post by: firemedic on August 13, 2010, 07:54:16 am I feed Purina One.....my dogs are in better shape than they've ever been on it. I don't feed the real high protein content, I see no need to unless your dogs are working hard almost daily, otherwise it overworks their kidneys processing all that protein. I used to feed Diamond myself, a few years back they had a bad run that had some bacteria or some other contaminant in it that killed a lot of dogs in the Southeast where I live. I feed less than half of the Purina per day than a mid-priced food such as Diamond, if I buy it at Sam's it costs less a dollar a pound and I wind up saving money over the other brands. Plus it is so digestable that my dogs don't crap near as much. Glad I finally figured out that the higher priced food is actually a bargain and better for your dogs.
Title: Re: Dog Food? Post by: Peachcreek on August 13, 2010, 08:54:38 am diamond high energy with an ole sloppy can of ole roy every other day. the vet said they were all a little too skinny so i started adding some good stuff..... been doing this for a couple years now. maybe i should chain the dogs to a tree to keep them still it would be cheaper...

Title: Re: Dog Food? Post by: BarrNinja on August 13, 2010, 01:20:51 pm Victor 24/20 It really is great dog food!
I got the same results with Nutro Hi energy but that stuff was almost $50 bucks a bag! Title: Re: Dog Food? Post by: Reuben on August 13, 2010, 03:14:14 pm Do they sell Victor in Angleton, Brazoria, or Freeport areas? If so what feed store?

Title: Re: Dog Food? Post by: aladatrot on August 13, 2010, 05:20:08 pm I buy the taste of the wild for one or two of my Aussies who aren't on the Victor. Taste of the wild will break the bank! It seems to be great feed, but it costs me $23 for 15 lbs of the bison and venison formula. Ouch!

Title: Re: Dog Food? Post by: MOhogger on August 13, 2010, 11:10:26 pm I feed diamond hi energy .I tried that red flannel hi energy, found it on sale at the local feed store for $10 per 50lb bag, and a couple of my dogs lost weight and the lazy dogs did fine on it.Red flannel dog food is something like 26/10 {not for sure on that,But low fat %}so its not as good for real active dogs.almost like givin em crack or speed, they have alot of energy but iose weight.LOL So its diamond from now on cause my dogs do excellant on it and I can find it everywhere.
Title: Re: Dog Food? Post by: T-Bob Parker on August 13, 2010, 11:22:08 pm Ive been feeding Sportmix bite-size, its not the best but my dogs are just chilling through most of the summer because that's my busy season. $15.99 for 40# at Arcola feed and tack. Yeah they poop more than I like right now but for me its puppy training time and time for the big dogs to hunt maybe once a week
Title: Re: Dog Food? Post by: fatboy outfitters on August 15, 2010, 12:28:24 pm I've been feeding bens best. The dogs have done real good on it. It is 21% protein and is small pellets. It comes in 40lb bag and is only 12.50 a bag. It comes out of arkanas.
Title: Re: Dog Food? Post by: Reuben on August 15, 2010, 12:46:21 pm If someone is looking for a good deal Ole Yeller dog food from Kroger is not bad fo 15 dollars for 50 #s... It says 100 % nutrionally complete for all stages on the bag.
Title: Re: Dog Food? Post by: NThoghunter on August 15, 2010, 01:18:30 pm Reuben, what are the first ingredients on the bag?

Don't know but it is probably corn for that price. Title: Re: Dog Food? Post by: graydog on August 15, 2010, 08:57:18 pm been using Diamond hi-energy. Results OK. My feed store gave me a bag of Sportmix to try with basically same formula. They want to switch due to pricing. are they pretty comparable?

I read the ingrediants of victor and it does seem even better but i cant find it around mckinney and dont like the 40lbs bag..... HAVE VICTOR USERS NOTICED THAT A 40LB BAG LASTS AS LONG AS A 50LB SPORTMIX BAG SINCE YOU SHOULD TECHNICALLY FEED LESS DUE TO BETTER INGREDIANTS?? Title: Re: Dog Food? Post by: Mike on August 15, 2010, 09:10:37 pm I'm feeding less of the Victor and the dogs are doing better on it than the Sportsmix... so I don't mind the 40# bags.
Title: Re: Dog Food? Post by: sfboarbuster on August 15, 2010, 09:15:44 pm I feed exceed 30/20, get it at sams club.
30 bucks a bag, but a coffee can feeds 3 grown dogs and I have found no food that compares to it. Every feed I have switched to they have fell off immediately on the same amount of feed. Title: Re: Dog Food? Post by: graydog on August 15, 2010, 09:18:38 pm Mike, thanks for the input on the Sportmix. I've only been on this site for a couple of weeks but I really enjoy the various topics. I see that you have to be thick skinned, because there is some pretty good ribbing going on. just like hunting with other people's dog and razzing them about not being as good as yours!
Title: Re: Dog Food? Post by: got2catchem on August 15, 2010, 09:24:12 pm Dogs that I hunt alot get Diamond Performance. Started and young dogs get Diamond High Energy.

Title: Re: Dog Food? Post by: DangerZone on August 16, 2010, 08:51:40 am sport mix original puppy formula, 27/12 ,to all my dogs, only one with no soy protien filler and 20$ for 35# bag, it's a chicken and fish meal protein base, since i been feeding it seem like i'm useing less and the dogs wieght are good lots a energy...took a little time to switch them over it gave the the run's when I first started feeding it, i was using diamond hipro..
Title: Re: Dog Food? Post by: Cristina on August 16, 2010, 11:09:14 am If someone is looking for a good deal Ole Yeller dog food from Kroger is not bad fo 15 dollars for 50 #s... It says 100 % nutrionally complete for all stages on the bag. I used to feed Ol Yeller and let me tell you I have a total of 16 dogs and 14 of those dogs always had diharrea on it :o no matter how we fed them they always had the runs and cleaning kennels was HELL!! It was also hard to put weight on some of the dogs they just didnt do well on it and we would feed more than we do now with the Victor. I didnt like the idea of buying 40# bags but I wanted to try it out, and it lasts about the same as buying 50# bags of crappy food except the dogs are getting better quality and they get fed less. We feed one 1lb can of coffee and for the bigger dogs 1 1/4 a day. I would recommend people to try Victor if you can get it. Title: Re: Dog Food?
