Deer Season to us means a bunch of traffic up and down I-10 on Fridays and Sundays, people heading south (we hear& see the road traffic in front of our house). Then there are those that whine and believe the dogs running hogs will run the deer off their hunting spots and I hear every single year. I have quit trying to say anything, just shake my head now. Yes we will still hunt some but usualy during the week days and in the dark. I use this time to focaus on projects around the house and working on pups

Its kind of a nice break after grain season. Leave the dogs in the kennel and chase some birds and deer for a couple months. :)

I used to hate it, but it gives it really helps more than anything else.  They feed out the hogs for me until time for bowl games and Mardi Gras.  Plus the deer hunters and landowners get a reminder of how important dogs are on population control.  It is a win win situation, not to mention I always pick up a new great spot every year.  But I will run at night and I do have a couple of larger tracts close by that I can hunt where gun hunters arent allowed.

Is there a limit on the number of dogs you can use during deer season there?

Flatbroke,

No limit on the number of dogs in our area.

I think in some counties of east Texas there is a limit of no more than two dogs on the ground during deer season, but I am not sure if that is still enforced or not. Also, I am not sure if that applies to hog dogs, or just trailing dogs.

Most peoples concern during deer season involves loss of hunting properties to deer leases, and the threat of having a dog shot by a deer hunter.  There are places I will still hunt throughout deer season, and there are places I am allowed to hunt, but that I will not turn out on due to the concentration of hunters in the area.

Here in Louisiana, NW Louisiana at least, there isnt any limit to my knowledge.  In some places there is just too many morons with guns for me to turn my dogs loose, much less me walk through the woods.

Exactly what goes through my head too, good time to use extremely short dogs.  I think I'm gonna just work pups until these deer hunters slow down a little.

Deer season doesnt change a whole lot for me, I dont guess I lose any spots that I can think of, most of mine is farm land with no deer to hunt anyway.
