Title: Lesson Learned Post by: nogalus boy on September 14, 2010, 11:05:43 am Yesterday my brother and I decided to go check our deer cams at the lease and thought we could let the pups run for a little bit. I have a 7 month old cur x Airedale gyp that I think has great potential and has never been out in the woods and my brother has about a 1 1/2 old male cur dog that has never found a hog before.
Before we get to my camera we let the pups run for a bit. While we are looking at about a 200 lb hog on my camera we heard my brothers male dog light up about 250 yards away and my little 7 month old gyp was right there with him. :o Need I remind you we dont have a catch dog or any other bay dogs that know what they are doing and Im in shorts and shoes. Not cool at all. So my brother and I start to the bay and both of them seem to be baying hard. While we were walking up to the bay the hog broke and run. We were going to try and shot it with the pistol since we didnt have any other dogs to help out. My brothers male dog chased him for about 600 yards before coming back. All though we didnt catch the hog we were very proud of our puppies and I will never again hit the woods with just two puppies and shorts! Title: Re: Lesson Learned Post by: BarrNinja on September 14, 2010, 12:22:15 pm I have to learn that lesson over and over again and the last time was this past Father's day. Seems like I bay a hog when I least expect it!
At least the pups are showing you something! Title: Re: Lesson Learned Post by: roosterhogdogin on September 14, 2010, 01:46:11 pm its ok dokie that young one is goin to a hell of a dog you got one rough pup right there!

Seems like I bay a hog when I least expect it! Thanks. Yea I think both of the dogs have good potential. They both come out of good blood line. I sure wasnt expecting anything like that yesterday. Tomorrow we are gonna put the good dogs on him and see what we cant do. At least the pups are showing you something! All of my hunting buddies knew about it before we could get out of the woods. We were very proud of our pups. We were just taking them down there to let them run because my lil gyp had never been in the woods before. I never thought that they would bay one up. Guess thats what I get for thinkin though.lol |
