Title: Going to catch a barr, er um bear
Post by: pig snatcher on October 25, 2008, 09:21:59 pm
Me and one of my hog huntin buddies are pulling out in the morning to go on our first bear hunt w/ hounds.

My buddy had contacted a fellow a while back about buying a dog he had.  Got to talkin w/ him and envited him and some of his buddies down to hunt with us one weekend.  Caught a few hogs and had a good time.  Well the fellow envited us up to go bear hunting w/ them.

I am pretty fired up about going.  Dont much care if I kill a bear myself but would like to see one bayed up or treed.

Wish us luck.  Hopefully I will have some pictures when I get back.

Sounds fun, make sure to bring a stick so you can poke him out of the tree if he bays too quick... ;)

Well, just got back this afternoon.  Unfortunately we didnt have any luck.  Ran some but luck just wasnt with us.  Darn dogs would drop down in a hole and you couldnt hear them for the wind and would loose them on the tracker.  Then you would have to drive around to the next mountain to get a beep on them.  We turned loose monday morning and didnt get caught back up until that afternoon.  Made a quick hunt this morning w/ simmilare results before heading home.

Another group of hunters killed a great big one, 400# if I remember correctly.

It was a good time though.  Those mountains were a lot different than the cypress swamps and salt marshes I am used to.  Sure makes me glad to live on flat ground.

Wished I could have stayed a little longer but I had other obligations at home.
