Title: Barking Dogs Post by: TinyTexasCowgirl on October 12, 2010, 11:13:34 am Ok guys and gals, I am at my wits end. How the heck do you get dogs to shut up? I've tried whipping her, tried a shock collar, tried screaming. I've tried everything I know of. She doesn't bark when she has the shock collar on, but whipping her only works for a few mins, and then goes back to it. I am ready to just kill her! And suggestions??

Nick, I live in town, so shootin a gun isn't an option, unless i'm shootin her, which is real tempting right now. Title: Re: Barking Dogs Post by: Caughtandhobbled on October 12, 2010, 12:38:22 pm Hello,
The no bark collars worked great for us. You stated that she don't bark with a shock collar. Get a dummy collar, it works great. I have a one shock collar system with two dummy collars, this usually means three well behaved dogs. Good luck. Title: Re: Barking Dogs Post by: matt_aggie04 on October 12, 2010, 02:18:37 pm I have an issue with puppies barking, dogs 3-9 months old that I had to be too hard on but at the same time you want to strangle. I try the water hose but that really only works when I am standing there. I have two dogs that get the pups going and then it sounds like thunder before you know it. I am about to pull my hair out at times. I have one pup that if he bays a hog as well as another dog he will have a great career haha...

I personaly dont use the no Bark collars because in my own experance I have taught 5 dogs not to Bark at all with them including 2 Black n Tan Coon dogs and the only time they wore the collar was in the pen. The No bark collars work to good in my own opinion. Title: Re: Barking Dogs Post by: TinyTexasCowgirl on October 13, 2010, 03:49:48 pm Guys, Grace and Gemma aren't kennel dogs lol. They are my two. Curs that are house pets. Lol
Title: Re: Barking Dogs Post by: Amokabs on October 13, 2010, 06:00:08 pm If they are house pets, have them surgically debarked. no big deal to the dog, and if done right, will sound like a cough instead of a bark, much more bearable than listening to em bark all night. if u find a vet that does it, make sure he goes down the throat as opposed to making an incision under the throat. The area under the throat is pretty vascular and the incision weeps and eventually opens and then just granulates in. if they do it by just going down the open mouth, it's a little harder for the vet, but much easier on the dog. Then u never have to worry about barking dog again. Also, if say, someone comes up that dont need to be around, you'll still hear them when they bark. It aint like they cant still bark, just more bearable
Title: Re: Barking Dogs Post by: Bino9905 on October 13, 2010, 10:58:32 pm When mine barked, I quit letting them run loose and put them in their kennels for the night.
That helped alot. Then they started barking in the kennel. I had to get up a few times at 2 or 3 in the morning. But I would just take my belt. Grab them from the sruff of their neck and hit them a few times as hard as I could. each time I would say "HUSH" in a deep calm voice, not angry. After two or three times of that. They were trained. At night I put them in their kennels and the last thing they hear before I leave is "hush" The immediatly freeze, quit wagging their tails and just sit and stare while I walk away. It has been months since my dogs last barked at night time. What ever method you choose, it needs to be consistent. You can hit them one time and scream to "shutup" then the next time do something completly different. |
