Title: Shock Collars Post by: Heaven Sent Kennel on October 23, 2010, 12:55:15 am I was just wondering everyone's opinion on what age they start training with a shock collar and what kind of training y'all besides trash breaking. Thanks for all the input.

I will scold first, then use a switch but I only us the collar as a last resort. I hunt horse back and use one to teach the cd to heal. I've tried them on dogs fighting. They really work well breaking dogs from trashing.
Title: Re: Shock Collars Post by: firemedic on October 23, 2010, 08:48:58 am The age would depend on the dog for me. Better not to start too early....a shock collar is a powerful tool to help train a dog, but one that can ruin a dog in a heartbeat if used improperly. It's always better to err on the light side as far as shocking goes.....you can always turn it up. I agree with leonriverboy in that you should wait until maybe a year old unless the dog is mature for it's age. Just be very careful with it......I suggest that you use it on your hand at all the settings just so you know what you're handing out when you shock your dog.
