There's lots of knowledge here. Take what will work in your situation and leave the rest. Myself I'm a straight BMC, they work very well for me.

Title: Re: Wanting to get started... Lacy or BMC Post by: Corey on November 14, 2010, 07:29:30 pm Thanks all so far, when i first started looking i was set on bmc, but am thinking i need to do more homework after learning about the Lacy dogs. I have a couple Patterdales, and some young Pat-Pit mix, while the Pat male I have will put teeth on anything I ask him to, sniffin out hogs is not really in the genes. This is why I think I'm wanting a cur or couple.
Title: Re: Wanting to get started... Lacy or BMC Post by: Purebreedcolt on November 14, 2010, 08:16:03 pm I like my lacy dogs but they are not for everybody. They can be a pain but are eger to please and one person or family dogs more so than most of the bmcs I have been around and owned. U put time into most pups from hog hunting backgrounds they are going to at least make u some type of dog
Title: Re: Wanting to get started... Title: Re: Wanting to get started... Lacy or BMC Post by: Reuben on November 17, 2010, 11:56:55 am Mountain curr!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! X2 but remember there are a lot of culls in every breed. So make sure and get a few pups from a good line of hog dogs. If you are getting a pup get more than 1 so that you up your chances of getting what you want... Title: Re: Wanting to get started... Lacy or BMC Post by: Cull Buck on November 17, 2010, 12:47:36 pm I think either breed has the potential to do great for you, its just a matter of finding a dog from a quality line of dogs. I have both, hunt both, and both can find a bay hogs like a champ.
Having said that, I honestly do believe its easier to find good BMC dog than good lacy dog. If for no other reason.....because there's a heck of a lot more BMC's alive and walking around. Title: Re: Wanting to get started... Lacy or BMC Post by: jwdeltx on November 18, 2010, 09:17:11 pm It depends on what type of hunting you want to do ,if you want strike /bay dogs to shoot over you need to find dogs with a lot of hunt not mutch gritt. Chose the type of dogs you need to fit the type of hunting you want to do.
Title: Re: Wanting to get started... Lacy or BMC Post by: BULLMASTER on November 18, 2010, 09:24:00 pm Just my opinion ,BMCs,Cats,Plotts,Mountain curs anything but a Lacy.I have hunted with many Lacys and have never seen one that I would feed.
Title: Re: Wanting to get started... Lacy or BMC Post by: kbar on November 19, 2010, 10:01:14 pm i know you didnt minchen them but i run almost all cats and wouldnt have it any other way. i do run one bmc......i have hunted with a few lacy's and i didnt like any of them...in my opinion they are pretty nutty....if you decideing between the two go with a bmc...or you can consider trying out a cat ;) i have almost always had good luck with cats. it kinda depends on what kind of pack your wanting to run....all rough and catchy(i would use bmc's) or do you want to run a few strike dogs and a couple catchdogs?(we run about 4 cats 1 bmc and have a cat and ridgeback for catch) hope this helps, Mrs kbar.

Don't just buy off on or let someone tell you what you want to hear or get sucked up on something that is just simply to good to be true. Go, hunt with em, several times.. In fact go hunt with as many different dogs and people as you can befor you take the leap would be my advise. A good mentor in your area that hunts and raises dogs can be a real asset to you so you might consider that. Good luck to ya... Title: Re: Wanting to get started... A good mentor in your area that hunts and raises dogs can be a real asset to you so you might consider that. Good luck to ya... X2 It seems that with some breeders that want to move pups for the money don't really care if the dog will hunt as much as they want to make a sale. With these type of folks don't tell them what you are looking for in a dog because it seems that these type of people always have just what you are looking for. ;D :o A good and conscientious breeder cares more about selling a high quality pup more than making the money and others only want enough money to help cover a few expenses. Don't think that the farther away you go to buy a pup that the better the pup. Sometimes the best ones are right around the corner from you... :) Just make sure that whatever breed you choose has some high quality hog dogs in the immediate background and further back in the bloodline would be a big plus. Title: Re: Wanting to get started... Lacy or BMC Post by: SulRossGrad on November 22, 2010, 09:13:06 am Lacy and BMC go figure Lacys are great and well BMC are to but the lacy are sometimes harder to find that really work and well BMC are bred till you have culls and have good ones it is how you raise them I would recommed getting some pups and raising them yourself and when you do that hunt with their parents and or their grandparents and see how they hunt
