Title: LSWDA Lifetime Membership Drive!
Post by: jls41 on November 19, 2010, 08:12:51 am
With the new Legislative Session coming in January 2011, LSWDA has a Lifetime Membership Campaign to raise funding to help pay a lobbyist in Austin to fight against anti-dog legislation.  Some of the funds raised with this Campaign will also help LSWDA put together a professional booth to attend events and help educate others regarding working dogs – both their heritage and their future.

LSWDA Lifetime Membership – For $150 you receive a lifetime membership with LSWDA and a one year membership to RPOA with a portion of this membership going towards paying a lobbyist through RPOA to fight anti dog legislation. This campaign will run from now until December 31, 2011.

Become a member of LSWDA today and make a difference where your working dog is concerned tomorrow!!

The 82nd legislation is going to a be tough year but what is worse is all the local ordinances popping up that will affect all the dogs owners from Hunting dogs, pets, and all working dogs.

YOU THAT TRAVEL WITH YOUR DOGS WILL BE AFFECTED ALSO TRAVELING THROUGH TOWNS AND CITIES IF YOU ARE NOT CAREFUL, YOU NEED TO BE AWARE AND READ THE TEXAS LAWS AND BILLS SECTION, AND HELP ASSOCIATIONS THAT STAY ON TOP OF THE BILLS BEFORE IT COMES TO A TOWN THAT YOU MAY BE VISITING

Here are a few examples of whats already happening againjst us working dog owners:

http://www.kltv.com/Global/story.asp?S=13488499

Here is more what is being done in "EAST Texas" Longview, Tx., If it can happen in East Texas it can get any of us closer to the major metroplexes

Under Sec.13-7 Access: If an animal on PRIVATE PROPERTY is subject to
impoundment, an officer may enter the property for the purpose of
impoundment or issuance of notice of violation or both. Be advised that no
one can legally enter private property without a search warrant.

Article V: Fierce or Dangerous Dogs (Vague and lacks due process)

Please give us time to send you the recent regulation passed in San Antonio
in this regard which clearly delineates three levels of Aggressive Dogs with
a scale for the seriousness of the situation. San Antonio uses the state
definitions for Dangerous Dogs. Your proposal states if impoundment cannot
be made with safety to animal control officer or other persons, the dog may
be destroyed without prior notice to the owner or harborer. This without
the owner's knowledge or notification?

Another example is the definition "At-large" which means "running free or
otherwise without physical or other restraint whether ON OR OFF THE PREMISES
OF ITS OWNER." It's not clear who or what this refers to: people or cats
or dogs. It doesn't say but if the intent is to regulate dogs, be advised
that pets confined to our property are not "at-large" in any definition of
the word.

Sec. 13-4. Authority to impound or destroy certain animals.

Animals are legally our personal property. This section states any police
officer, animal control officer or other person designated by the
administrator may impound any animal kept in violation of this chapter or
any animal which is diseased; any animal which has bitten; or acted in a
fierce or vicious manner (without clear definition). It also allows a
contract with an animal shelter for enforcement of all these provisions.

On pets being legally personal property: Pet mandatory spay/neuter surgery
is life threatening and required for any dog impounded for running at large.
There's a city liability and sterilized dogs running loose are just as much
of a threat to public health and safety as unsterilized animals. They also
bite, spread disease and terrorize neighborhoods.

Dog and cat limits of 6 each or total aggregate unless owned as "competition
dogs or cats" with an unworkable definition for same.

There are three confusing definitions: "fowl, domestic fowl and poultry"
along with vague overlapping restrictions.

The "Kennel" definition is a hodgepodge of confusing language. There are no
commercial dog or cat breeding kennels within any Texas city limits due to
Pet Limits.

Under "Restraint" regulations, the ordinance forbids animals riding inside a
car being driven or parked unless it's in a crate large enough to stand up
and turn around in or "cross-connected with a single lead." Cats aren't
going to like that cross-connected lead very much and dogs shouldn't have to
be crated.

There is an "Intact" and "Sterilized" Animal definition which is redundant.

This is ridiculous and only the beggining, they can take our freedoms away one little bit at a time and this is where it starts, it will get more and more strict

Can someone fill me in on why there are 2 dog hunting associations in our circle now?  You can pm me to keep from stirring up an uncomfortable debate,  but like to be in the loop, thanks.

Lone Star Working Dog Association is for all working dogs not just hunting dogs, you have to work to stop the Breed Specific Legislation,  the Kennel licensing, mandatory spaying/ neuter laws, and Dangerous dog acts before they pick on just hunting dogs.

Look at the bigger picture, and joiningg with other forces of all types of dogs that will be affected from hunting dogs, to weight pullers, to sled dogs, to Racing dogs  - Strength comes numbers, the more folks working to save our freedoms and priveledges the better, Do you want to put all your eggs in one Basket?

LSWDA has already joined up with RPOA to help with lobbying in Austin for the 82nd legislation, also working with other associations and clubs all for the Goals

I do not know of any working dog associations in Oklahoma, but LSWDA welcomes anyone and everyone that would like to join us.  Although we cannot lobby in the states that neighbor Texas, LSWDA can help by setting a precedence for associations or organizations in our neighboring states and uniting with them to help fight anti led legislation.

How many years has LSWDA been established and existed? what about RPOA? I am just not sure about signing up for a lifetime membership if the organization is new and might fold and collapse in a year or two. Seems like just a year or so ago there was another organization TDHA saying the same things and asking for money for memberships but they don't seem to be around anymore...

LSWDA is a young organization, Started in 2009.

RPOA has been around since 1992 that I am aware of.

TDHA still has a website up, and is promoting their annual hunt for the hungry, so I would say they are still around....

If everybody waits for an organization to become something, before they join in, the organization cannot succeed. At some point one has to take a leap of faith.  I put my money up, as did many others, to fund the startup of LSWDA. There is a game plan, there are numerous organizations already affiliated with LSWDA, all that is needed now is support from the people who stand to be affected by upcoming legislation.

I actually looked and our Dual Membership runs through the end of January, 2011 - sorry for the misinformation - so for $35 you can become a member for a year with BOTH RPOA and LSWDA until January 31, 2011!!  Your membership money to RPOA will go to pay for a lobbyist for this session!!

Thanks Chris and Chance for all of you and yours leap of faith in this new association.  We appreciate it.

For those that would like to check us out, please do so at www.lswda.org/  Don't miss signing up and looking at our forum either.  We welcome stories and pics of any kind of working dogs....we love them all!!!

Texas' 82nd Legislative Session will begin on January 11th - we all need to stand up and fight to keep our priviledges - if we don't they will strip them away from us one at a time until there is nothing left and it is illegal to own ANY kind of animal!!!
