Title: Daughter's First Deer Post by: sp on December 01, 2010, 04:36:46 pm My eleven year old wanted to shoot a deer 2 years ago. After all the prep and training, when it came down to it she changed her mind. Last year, she showed no interest at all and hardly even went to the stand with me or her mother. This year, she said she was ready. I on the other hand was skeptical whether she would be. However, she went with me or her mother to the stands every hunt. Friday morning I took her to kill a big slick 6 point cull buck. The deer was 3 years old, had 8 inch tines, but was not even trying to grow brow tines. However, before that deer could show up, this deer walked in. I had no prior knowledge of this deer's existence. My daughter asked if she could shoot it, and after aging and scoring the deer I said OK. This deer scores 135 and I have probably ruined my daughter. Deer like this are few and far between in Lavaca County, and I could not guaranty ever seeing it again. Plus, she has been very patient. I have had to tell her no on 4 different 120 class deer that were simply too young. Never once did she pout or get discouraged, she simply took it like an adult (actually better than some adults). I am very happy for her. I just hope she doesn't think this will happen every year. I told her that I have never shot a deer that good!

I have a 13 y/o and I have to give her no choice but to out to the farm with me. I still have hope in my 12 month old though. My wife is a lost cause lol.

Title: Re: Daughter's First Deer Post by: matt_aggie04 on December 01, 2010, 08:57:21 pm That box was thrown together and is not as square as most things I build. Glad it is working out for you though. That is one heck of a deer for Lavaca county or any county for that matter haha.
Title: Re: Daughter's First Deer Post by: sp on December 01, 2010, 09:27:15 pm Well none of my dogs know how to use a square or a tape measure so don't worry about it. They have not complained. I just don't want them to see Alan's new box!!!!!
