Title: Some good dog work...
Post by: Noah on December 04, 2010, 11:35:32 pm
So me and ol' Lee-furd had the day to ourselves so we steered clear of the briars and had a great trainin' day with the pups!

Went out to one of our "low stress" properties, put Shine and Snook out and they caught a small sow but had it finished before we got to 'em... put my "meat-heads" out next(Chub and Snapps) and they caught another lil' sow in a bottom that we got to quick enuff to save for some trainin'!!!  (Got a hunt lined up with ol' CrackerC down at Green Swamp so tryin' ta get the dogs legged up quick like!   ;D )

Been too busy to put the time into my pups like I'd like to, but made up for it today!  Kicked 'em out and let 'em get some work done before play time!  ;D

Get back in there...  :D (Sawfish showin' some straight up na-chew-rall instinct  :o )

Got 'em bunched.... now what?  ;D  Ahhhh genetics.... it's a beautiful thing!  :D First time exposure to cattle for these pups...

A good pic of "Spinner" (fem.), the most athletic of the 4... REALLY hope she turns out as well as she's starting!!!

... And of course I've got to throw a shot up of my favorite... "Momma Shine"... brood gyp extrodinaire  ;D  DAMN that's a good lookin' dog!!!!  ;D

hey noah how long did you wait before you turned the pups out in front of the sow....we been doing that with some older pups that we have already started hunting and got them doing good so we want to keep them going even during deer season....we been turning the hog loose and waiting about 30 min and turn them loose we been doing it in an open field and sending the hog towards the woodline...by the way it looks like you got something to look forward to ;D

Goose, this was the 1st time I've let these pups work a loose hog in the woods.  They're 4mnths right now and just now really turnin' on... I kicked that sow out and 'soon as she hit the edge of the bayhead, cut the 4 pups to her.  Will be increasing the lead time as they get a little older/faster... just keepin' it easy and fun right now!  But I have to do the same as you until these goat worshipers clear out of my woods...  rolleyes ;D  Just tryin' ta keep the young dogs tuned in 'till it's game time!!!

Reuben, thanks, I really like the looks of some of your old dogs... hope you and Scott can bring 'em back!  ;)

Thanks JDT!!!  No, I kept 2 females and 2 males... culled down to 6 based on conformation/personality... 2 good males went to my boys in Myakka, should get some good feedback from them... they'll get worked hard, that's for damn sure!  I sure don't care to keep a male dog, but if I'm gonna try an' "refine" these mixbreed dogs... I guess it's a necessary evil...  :P ;D

Thanks Lisa! Lookin' forward to huntin' that Hampton tract with Mark... tired of hearin' about all the "big toothies" in there... ready to see for myself!  Just hopin' the hogs are in there as dry as it is right now!
